I have no idea what week I'm at!!!

Having just re-read my last post, I've realised how far my babies have come in such a short space of time. We moved house nearly 2 months ago and have settled in really well I think. My little ones have come on leaps and bounds, I think the extra space we have has helped.

Little lady is about to start potty training, its something I've dreaded if I'm honest. The idea of one roaming around wondering what the lovely puddles of water are while the other is hysterical and soaking wet just fills me with dread, but she seems ready so lets give it a try.

Little man has blossomed. He turned 1 last month, starting walking 2 weeks later and has very quickly learnt to climb. The climbing freaks me out, I only have to turn my back for a moment and he's used the changing box to clamber onto the sofa and is about to walk off the edge of it and all with a huge grin on his face.

Anyway, we had the dreaded dietitian again last week. Again, she was lovely and very reassuring. I have however got another food to avoid. Nuts. She is concerned that after being sick after having a cereal with nuts in it 3 times there may be a sensitivity to them. It doesn't seem to be a big deal at the moment as I've avoided nuts through his other allergies anyway and I think the dietitian is more  concerned than I am. Makes a nice change to be quite chilled about something relating to my children lol.

It has made me list all the foods I have to avoid just to feed my little family. So far its dairy, wheat, soya, nuts, stone fruit, citrus, parsnip and tomato has to be limited. 3 of the 4 of us have food allergies and its a different combination of foods off the list for each of us, the only one we have in common is dairy. Blimey.

Morgan has really progressed with self feeding, he has finger food with every meal and I just top him up with some mashed food. Seems to work quite well. He has developed a love for marmite too. No idea where he got that from as the rest of us hate it.

I've rediscovered my love of cooking since we moved so our fridge freezer is well stocked with breads, cakes, stews, currys and anything else I can think to make. The little ones think its great, even madam has tried a few new foods, they've all been declared as "bleurgh!" but at least she had a try ;-)

Week 24

Oh the boxes, the boxes the boxes the boxes. I can't go over them, I can't go under them, I'll have to somehow shove them out the way so I can reach the oven/tap/washing machine/toilet then shove them back into place again after. This moving thing will be great once it's over...

But anyway, we've had an amazing week! Morgan has finally cut his 7th tooth and he started to crawl on Saturday. It's been hilarious watching him realise he can get to places all by himself, not quite as funny as seeing my toddler girl realise her little brother is heading her way then frantically scramble up onto the sofa to get away, Morgan tends to laugh his socks off when she does this. I also handed in my resignation at work on Saturday, it was a lovely feeling knowing I don't have to go back. Bit scary walking away but I know its the best thing for all 4 of us given our current circumstances. It's lovely being able to say I'm a stay at home mummy.

On to food anyway. Sir has eaten really well this week. He is starting to refuse purees now in favour of finger foods. Breakfast is still largely pancakes, toast, banana bread, etc, so he can feed himself, but I'm struggling with lunches and dinners. I have a fair bit of stage 2 and 3 purees stashed in the freezer but he doesn't really want them. I'm somewhat distracted with the move that is hopefully happening next week so cannot think of new finger foods for him. I have tried him on some homemade pizza and he really enjoyed it. Chips, peas, strips of chicken and the occasional fishfinger have all been gratefully received by sir so far. I want to make up some little fishcakes, veggie burgers, etc for him but I have neither the time or energy until we move. I've also packed away most of my kitchen equipment so have very little to cook on now anyway!

For the next week or so I'll have to be creative with his lunches and dinners, maybe use the purees as sandwich fillings or something??

Week 23

Its been an interesting week in my little household. It would seem Morgan has a sensitivity to tomato. I've drastically reduced the amount of tomato he eats and his eczema and reflux have calmed right down thankfully. He's also become more settled at night and less windy, there was a few days he was waking up screaming and pulling his legs up, he only settled if I rested my hand on  his tummy which allowed him to trump loudly and violently eventually. The reduction in tomato has also allowed us to reduce the gaviscon back down and he's poo-ing again! Yay! Never thought I'd be excited over baby poo I have to admit.

I've managed to finally come up with a non meat dinner that he will eat lol, I made him a lentil and aubergine curry and he really enjoys it. DD won't touch it yet, but one battle at a time.

The muesli I mentioned last week has been unceremoniously kicked out of the house too, I tried little man again and he threw it up. I suspect its the hazelnuts but difficult to prove it without making him puke again so I'll leave all nuts until he's 1 now.

Meal times in general are becoming more interesting. I find that Morgan will eat better if he can feed himself, so breakfasts are now things like toast, banana bread, dry cereal or mini pancakes just so he can help himself. Naturally I'm sat with him worrying he isn't getting enough and encouraging him along by popping bits of toast, etc, into his mouth, but he is enjoying his bit of independence. I've always made sure his snacks are finger foods so there was no change there but I've had to re think lunches and dinners. Wherever possible, I give him some of what we're eating as finger food and if thats not possible I dish out breadsticks, rice cakes, veggie sticks or whatever I can think of/have in the house. It seems to be working as where sirs interest in food was starting to decline, he's suddenly not phased at being in his highchair and will watch what I'm doing as he seems to know that something interesting is coming his way!!

I'm still waiting for him to cut those teeth I mentioned before, 1 is so close to coming through. I just wish it would hurry up, poor child is suffering enough. I also want him to stop biting me! He seems to cry cos the teeth hurt, so I pick him up and he bites down on my shoulder. He feels better until I yelp and then the tears start again, really is a vicious circle!!!

The rest of the week has been dedicated to the impending house move, I am now dodging around boxes to get through the house and I've barely started. I can see cabin fever kicking in soon, especially once the boxes start to block out the telly/windows/doorways. Oh well, hopefully we'll be going in a couple of weeks.

Week 22

I'm having to change how often I blog, I don't really want to but at the moment I'm struggling to keep it up and I really don't want to stop blogging. I'm falling behind because of the impending move, which with any luck is only 3 weeks away, and we have the entire house to pack. Hard enough to do with a toddler and a baby under your feet but add in a husband that took a full 5 minutes to decide whether or not to keep an ancient secondhand Transformers manual (it's now at the local charity shop!!) and you can imagine what state our home is in... For now I'm going to blog about the high and low lights of our week and hope I manage to get organised enough to blog daily again.

We've had a busy week, we've been to my mums for the day and she encouraged me to try a 10 month plus jar while we were there, Morgan ate virtually all of this mammoth sized jar and didn't seem to notice the larger chunks of veg and pasta that were in it. Bit of a result really, means less work when I make his food at home lol. I've also tried him on my first muesli, which is also 10 months plus. He really loved it and ate all of it the first time he tried it. The next day he had virtually all of it again, but an hour later he was a bit sick. I know his reflux has been flaring up, but I thought we had it back under control. I suspect it may have been the ground hazelnuts in the muesli as its the first time he's had nuts. No signs of an allergy so maybe they are just a little rich for his tummy. I will find the courage to try him again soon and see if he reacts again.

Sir has also become a cake monster! Any type of cake will do, fairy cakes, marble cake, angel layer cake, chocolate cake, whatever. Just don't offer him a muffin as he'll spit it back at you, as I found out after lovingly baking banana choc chip muffins yesterday lol.

I've been keeping a closer eye on his eczema too as it has been worse the last week or 2. I think the weather hasn't helped but I've also realised he's having quite a bit of tomato in his diet. Virtually all the jar food I've been giving him on the run has tomato in it and I've started using tinned tomato more in his food. I'm trying really hard to cut it back again, difficult with a freezer full of tomato-ey baby food. I've had to make a few different tomato free batches to try and even things up again. Good news is it seems to be working, his eczema seems a bit calmer since.

Morgan is teething once again. I can see at least 3 teeth just under the gum that he should cut any day now. He's been hysterical with the pain of it, really not sleeping well, bright red and hot cheeks, chewing everything including his own arm and quite bad tempered. Can't say I blame him but it is a nightmare to deal with. I've kept him dosed on pain relief and teething gel. It's not made too much of an impact on his food intake but he does refuse to eat when he's really suffering.

Just to round things off, we've had to up his gaviscon again so he's on 4 sachets a day. The inevitable result is the poor child is constipated on top of everything else. I will reduce the gaviscon down again now as it's just not fair on him.

My poor little boy :-(

Day 145

Not the greatest of nights in all honesty. Little lady had a bad dream at 5.15am and woke up screaming and little man fed at 11pm and 2am, he then woke up soaking wet at 6.30 meaning the tesco nappies have now let us down. Great.

For brekkie, little man had the last of the strawberry and banana porridge. Its the last of the first stage cereal I had so I've got a 10 month plus cereal to try him on now. I feel odd about him turning 10 months. I'm immensely proud of him and love him so much my heart could burst, I just keep remembering that when my little lady was 10 months I found out I was pregnant. She was so little!!!!! It keeps washing over me how wonderful they both are too, I am such a lucky mummy to have my 2 amazing babies.

Enough sentiment! (They are yummy though lol.) We went out to the toddler group this morning and I realised how glad I am for half term to be over so the regular toddler groups are back. I missed the mummy chatter and madam missed having loads of children and toys to play with. Sir wasn't so thrilled, he refused to go to sleep and ended up having a melt down just as we left because he was exhausted. He fell asleep on the way home and slept for about an hour in the end. When he woke up I fed him ham and pasta in tomato sauce and he had quite a bit. Pudding was refused.

After such a late nap I wasn't sure how he'd be this afternoon. I hoped he would go through till bedtime without another sleep but Morgan had other ideas! At dinner time he fussed over the salmon, sweet potato and spinach, but did have 3/4 of it then half his rice pudding. I put him up for a sleep as he was so tired and he had a half hour nap before bathtime.

He's gone to bed about half an hour later than normal but at least he settled himself for a change.

Tuesday 12 June 2012

Day 144

Bit of a horrid night with the little man, he woke up about 11.30pm and couldn't settle so ended up downstairs watching tv with daddy till just after 1am. Woke again at 3.30am for a bottle, so I changed his nappy at the same time, then at 7am he woke up soaking wet. He started the night in a tesco nappy which was fine, then was changed into a huggies which left him soaking in less than 4 hours, ridiculous. Think I'll just bin the huggies.

Once we were up, sir wasn't really interested in breakfast. We tried him on weetabix, pancakes and cheerios with no milk and he just picked at it all, so we gave up. I thought by lunch time he'd be really hungry having only had half a rich tea finger since brekkie but I was wrong. He very slowly ate some curried beef, he had maybe half of it before clamping his mouth shut and turning away. A few bites of marble cake was his pudding. So unusual for him to refuse food so something isn't right.

Morgan went for a nap just after 2pm, shockingly, so did our toddler girl. I sent DH up for a nap too as he'd been up till the early hours with sir. That just left me, so I swept the kitchen floor then had a better idea and went to sleep as well! Next thing I knew it was 4pm, blimey!!!

Morgan was a hungry, cranky boy by then so I fed him a jar of vegetable and chicken risotto and he ate really well at last. Afterwards I thought I'd try him on some angel layer cake but he'd had enough and threw it on the floor.

Bedtime was a mare, he refused to have his bottle then refused his dummy. Once I managed to wrestle him into his cot he refused to go to sleep. Arghh! In the end I lay him down on our bed and lay next to him reading a book till he dropped off, it took half an hour. He has been chewing anything he can lay his hands on this afternoon so I've dosed him up on pain relief as I can see the tops of 2 more teeth just under the gum, would explain why he doesn't want to eat too. Fingers crossed he has a better night.

Monday 11 June 2012

Day 143

He slept in his cot all night! No screaming for mummy, a bottle or because he was soaked from a dodgy nappy. I'm probably going to have a few rough nights just to make up for it lol. I thought I'd try tesco nappies after the last 2 brands failed and I'm amazed they may be the solution. I had to buy active fit ones for the day and ultra absorpbant for overnight but whatever works I suppose.

Once I was woken up by a little man giggling because his toes had disappeared (baby sleeping bags are my saviour with my wriggly little sleepy baby), we went downstairs in search of breakfast. Sir had banana porridge, dry cheerios and managed to get his hands on one of my hot cross buns, so he ate really well!!

He slept well before lunch and woke up hungry as he had missed snack time. I gave him chicken curry with rice and some popadoms. He did really well, possibly because he was distracted with crushing popadoms and sprinkling them everywhere.

After lunch my babies treated me to half an hour of hysterical laughter as they played peek a boo with each other. It was gorgeous watching them. They really do love each other, until one takes the others toy, its all out war after that lol.

Dinner was chicken pasta bake and he had it all. I offered him apple and blueberry puree afterwards but after a few spoons he gave up. His little tummy was bloated where he was so full :-)

With any luck the change of nappies will help him to sleep a bit better again tonight. I'll soon find out though.

Saturday 9 June 2012

Day 142

Sir didn't wake for a bottle, instead he tried to get me up at 6am so guess where he ended up sleeping for 2 hours. 6am is just an offensive time to be cried at!

Breakfast today was mini pancakes and strawberry and banana porridge. Morgan really took to the pancakes, he actually ate them this time instead of screwing them up and throwing them on the floor. He also ate about half his cereal.

Lunch was lamb roast. I think he found it a bit bland as he just wasn't interested in it, he very slowly ate less than half the bowl but was quick to eat all his rice pud afterwards. I can see myself having to tweak the lamb roast recipe now his tastes have changed, good thing I enjoy cooking!

After lunch the 3 of us went to see a hairdresser, only my toddler girl and me actually had our hair cut can I stress! Morgan decided halfway through he wanted a nap so I ended up with him on my lap while the poor woman tried to work around him pulling handfuls of my hair and wriggling around on my knee. All credit to her, she managed it somehow!!!

I made a roast chicken dinner but it all went wrong. The yorkshire puddings were soggy, DH insists his carrots were hard although everyone elses were fine and madam refused to eat anything other than 1 roast potato. Morgan did well, I blitzed down some roast potato, chicken, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower and a spoon of gravy then gave him some finger food too. He really enjoyed it. The cauliflower on his tray was immediatley thrown on the floor but he happily tried the rest and ate the puree. He had half a fruit pot for pud.

Day 141

Mini man had an awful night, he didn't wake up but kept crying in his sleep. Is it possible for babies to have bad dreams at this age???? He isn't poorly and doesn't seem to be teething so not sure what was wrong. By 1am I had enough of getting up to him every half hour so brought him into our bed. He slept better with us but still kept crying out every hour or 2. He finally woke up at 7am and seemed happy but tired.

We have changed his gaviscon to being in his bedtime bottle instead of the 11pm feed and if he has a night feed  we put some in that too. It seems to have helped yesterday as he had no hiccups or any telltale swallowing/gulping noises. Fingers crossed it carries on although I wish I knew what had triggered it.

Breakfast today was banana porridge. He ate virtually all of it despite trying to duel with me using a spoon!
We popped over to see another friend of mine who has a little boy 5 weeks younger than Morgan after brekkie. Her son is so sweet, he's also a chilled little fella compared to my feisty boy. Morgan wants to get up and run around/grab hold of anything nearby/pull my hair/smear soggy biscuit over me, whereas her son is happy to sit down and play. I get the impression Morgan is going to be a handful of a toddler very soon!!! It was lovely catching up with her, it's been a while since we last met up so it was amazing to see how much the boys had changed.

We left at lunch time as sir had refused a sleep and was kicking up a stink! He sparked in the car and slept for an hour. He woke up very hungry and ate all his chicken casserole plus half a fruit pot.

For dinner, little man had some of the chicken pasta bake I'd made earlier in the day. I have tweaked my recipe and he loved it. I gave him a huge bowlful but he had a good go at it. He was a bit full afterwards so only had a few spoons of his custard.

He was ok after his bedtime bottle again, so we'll keep up the gaviscon for now and see what happens.

Day 140

Another good night for Morgan, he slept till 8am with just one wake up for a feed. His reflux seems to be flaring up again though as he had violent hiccups just before bed last night and again after his night bottle. He also seems a bit uncomfortable when he lays down, preferring to be propped up slightly particularly in his sleep. I think we'll adjust his gaviscon again and see if it helps.

Breakfast today was toast and a fruit pot, he wasn't too fussed with the toast but did eat about quarter of a slice. The fruit pot was gone in seconds.

Mini man had curried beef for lunch, he had about 2 thirds of it before demanding some pudding. I gave him chocolate semolina but he wasn't really interested, he had a few spoons before he wanted to get down and chase his sister around. When I say chase, I mean hang on to my fingers to balance himself while he sprints after his sister roaring laughing and she tries to ward him off by using any toy that comes to hand while also roaring laughing. They have me in hysterics some days but it really doesn't do my back any favours!!

Dinner was pork and rice, he was really quite hungry by then so ate loads of it along with some apple and rhubarb crumble with oat cream.

Day 139

My gorgeous boy did so well overnight, he slept in his own cot all night and woke up just once for a bottle. He woke up a hungry boy and had almost all of a weetabix then had a handful of cheerios too. He really loved picking them up, twisting them around in his little hand before munching on them.

We disappeared to my friends house for lunch so I took a jar of vegetable risotto with chicken and a fruit pot with me. He did really well, eating most of the jar and half the fruit pot. He loved watching our girls playing together, he was giggling, trying to join and pull himself up using my hair while we were there. He fell asleep in the car on the way home and ended up having an hour and a half nap.

Dinner was salmon, sweet potato and spinach. He hasn't had it for a while and seemed to love it, he kept reaching for the spoon and crying out if he wasn't fed quick enough lol. He had a slice of marble cake afterwards and demolished it! He then managed to lay his hands on his sisters piece of cake, she had left it within reach without us knowing, and within seconds he had ripped it apart and was stuffing chunks of it in his happy little mouth. Any one would think I never feed him.

Tuesday 5 June 2012

Day 138

I fell into the trap at 1am, little man decided mummy's arms were the safest and cosiest place to sleep and would not settle again anywhere else, so guess where he slept the for rest of the night... I cannot wait for us to move so he has his own room, I'm hoping that I will actually stick to my guns if he's not in the same room as us. We seem to be quite a way through the process so I feel a little easier mentioning it now! We currently live in a 2 bed and are buying a 3 bed. I'm still afraid of the whole process will go belly up, but the new house is the only place I could picture our furniture and we viewed about 15 houses in the end.

Anyway, once I was woken up by a gorgeous little man pulling my hair then grinning at me, we had some breakfast together with my beautiful little lady. Morgan managed half a bowl of banana porridge and quarter of a crumpet, not bad really.

He went down for a nap earlier than I expected so I used the opportunity to get myself, my girl and the bag ready to go out as soon as he woke up. Madam had other ideas though and managed to wake him up early with an almighty tantrum. She's just not her usual happy, cheeky self at the moment, I have an awful feeling she's coming down with something but time will always tell.

Once Morgan was awake, we went dashing out to the health food shop to stock up on dairy and soya free yogurts, cheese and chocolate. We got back just in time for lunch and little man had half his pork and apple roast dinner and a choccie biccie afterwards.

To make up for this morning, he had a really good nap, waking up just in time for dinner. I heated up some chicken curry, which he had almost all off, followed by rice pudding. Needless to say he ate really well and was full of energy, chatter and giggles afterwards!

Monday 4 June 2012

Day 137

I must be the only person that finds bank holiday weekends a complete bore. For me it's usually a long 3 or 4 days where DH is at work and I have my 2 babies to entertain with nothing to do and no one around to see. Thankfully this one has been broken up quite nicely as yesterday we had our friends over, our girls are the same age and both are comedy geniuses. Today one of our neighbours has decided to hold an impromptu get together on the green to mark the jubilee and everyone in our close seemed to turn out. It was nice finding out who's around us, shame we are just a few weeks away from moving lol.

Anyway, onto food. Sir had toast and a fruit pot for brekkie but didn't have a great deal. He was the same at lunch, despite having lamb roast which is usually a firm favourite. Pud was yesterdays untouched custard and he did ok with that.

Having realised the cupboards are looking quite bare again, we went out and got a roasted chicken for our dinner. I boiled up some potato with apple, carrot, shallot and thyme then blitzed it down with some of the chicken and he ate loads. I handed him a few carrot slices and some strips of chicken as finger food but he wasn't too impressed. He also ate 3/4 of an apple and blueberry fruit pot afterwards. I'm just pleased he's finally eaten well.

The new nappies worked well last night, he did wake up at 3am again but that was from hunger rather than being wet through. Hopefully he'll settle at night again now.

Day 136

Stupid nappy leaked again so we had a 4am wake up call from a soggy, cold and uncomfortable baby. I've gone out and bought some Huggies but the price is absurd, twice what I was paying for Sainsburys own. No way will I keep buying them so once they're gone I'll have to try another brand.

Once sir was clean and dry he slept till 7am. He woke up really quite happy and was extra smiley when we went to get his sister up straight away. They are so sweet together, little lady was full of smiles and giggles for him as she got out of bed and he had the first cuddle of the day from her.

I fed Morgan weetabix for brekkie while I danced around the kitchen making pancakes for us all. He had a half a weetabix and 2 mini pancakes in the end. Little lady had about 9 mini pancakes with strawberry jam, she always seems to eat more pancakes when she's helped me to make the batter. I really can't wait to have 2 little kitchen helpers making mess with me!!!

I heated up some curried beef for sirs lunch, but he wasn't that interested in eating for some reason. I assume he was still full from brekkie as he had slept well, etc. He managed ok with his chocolate semolina though...

He was hungry by dinner time and had most of his chicken pasta bake. Only trouble was he hadn't slept in the afternoon so was falling asleep in his high chair, I didn't bother offering him any pud and DH put him up for a nap. Fortunatley he only had 30 minutes so wasn't up much past his usual bedtime.

Saturday 2 June 2012

Day 135

Morgan tried to get me up at 6am today, but he fell for my double bluff and went back to sleep in our bed till 8am, ha ha!! He did manage to successfully get us up at 3.30am as he was soaking wet where his nappy had leaked, he had a bottle at this time too as he couldn't settle. When he woke at 8am he was soaked through again. We bought nappies yesterday and noticed the design on his nappies has changed and they've come down in price so I'm wondering if they are no longer as absorbent. They've been ok during the day but if we have leakages again tonight I will go and get some different ones.

This mornings breakfast was toast and an apple and banana fruit pot. I was really proud of sir as he fed himself about half the toast, the rest was kindly shared with the highchair and floor, and had all the fruit pot. He was full of energy and mischief after that and spent a good half hour making me walk him from the front door to the back door and back again.

We went out to the library mid morning and little man had a sleep in the pushchair, he woke up desperate to walk up and down the house again so worked up quite an appetite. He had chicken curry with poppadoms for lunch, he did well again eating 3/4 of it. I gave him a slice of marble cake afterwards and he was very happy pulling it apart in between mouthfuls!

I had a bit of an odd afternoon. I was fine all day until after lunch when I felt really dizzy, weak and lethargic. I couldn't get rid of the feeling so my lovely friend came over to look after us and I cannot thank her enough. She took us all back to her home and fed both my babies. Morgan had a third of a jar of vegetable risotto with chicken I think, I just picked up whatever was in the cupboard before we left so can't be completely sure! He also had some rice pudding I'd made yesterday. DH picked us up once he finished work and brought us back home but even now I feel odd, just wish I knew what was going on as its frustrating feeling like this. Hopefully some sleep will help so over to you little man!

Friday 1 June 2012

Day 134

And today he slept till 7am! Woo hoo!! Please, please, please let him keep this up!!!! The world is so much brighter when I've slept well.

He was a hungry boy soon after he woke up but wasn't overly impressed with the instant porridge I'd made up. He had maybe half of it, but then spotted his dummy on the table and wanted that instead. I refused to give him it but he somehow managed to grab hold of it, I suspect there was a helpful toddler girl involved. Once the dummy went in there was no chance of any more food being eaten so I gave up.

I went out with my girl to try a new active toddler group in the morning, leaving Morgan asleep with his daddy. I received a message while we were out saying little man had woken up and was saying "da da da" through the monitor. I wish I'd been there as I just know he was pile of mushy love on hearing that!

I got back with little lady just before lunch so spent a frantic 15 minutes trying to prepare 3 different lunches (some days I really curse us all having different food allergies) while madam was pulling at my dress demanding snacks and sir was sat in his walker crying his heart out for some food. DH was merrily pegging out washing in the garden completely oblivious to the ear splitting racket the 3 of us were making in the kitchen, men! It calmed down once the babies were seated in their chairs with a few breadsticks. Eventually, I managed to give Morgan his beef casserole, he had all of it along with most of his apple and rhubarb crumble with oat cream.

Dinner was a bit less challenging, although I had spent 2 hours in the kitchen by then making bread, chicken curry, rice pudding, lamb curry and boiled and quinoa. I heated up some chicken pasta bake for his dinner, he really enjoyed it and kept trying to grab hold of the bowl to feed himself. I will be brave soon and put the bowl in front of him, honest... Pudding was apple and banana puree, well at least it was till he realised his sister had choccie drops. One taste of a chocolate drop and he was converted lol.

Even after his mammoth dinner, Morgan still managed to have most of his bedtime bottle. With any luck it will set him up for another good night.

Thursday 31 May 2012

Day 133

Today's wake up call was at 5.50am, lovely... He pulled a blinding trick on me though, I heard him stirring in his cot (which is in our room) and then he went completely still. I could see his arm from our bed and he wasn't moving at all, so I assumed he had gone back to sleep. As I crept out of our room to use the bathroom, a little voice suddenly went "ga ga goo" followed by lots of giggles. When I turned around he had a huge grin on his face as though he was saying "ha, fooled you mummy, now you have to get me up and play!" Menace!!! He had breakfast at about 7.30am, I gave him weetabix today and he had just over half of one.

We had some friends over at lunch time, Morgan enjoyed sitting with the 2 girls during lunch, he had fish pie followed by rice pudding and ate quite a bit, especially when he got hold of the bowl of rice pud and started scooping up handfuls, it went everywhere though. He seems to be at an age where he wants to play with the older children but as he can't walk or crawl yet, he just cannot keep up with them. Very sweet watching him giggle at their antics and its especially sweet when they come over to him and hand him toys, he gives them huge smiles as a thank you.

As little man slept through his dinner time, he woke up very hungry and didn't stop crying till the first spoonful of food was in his mouth. For speed, and to save our eardrums, we gave him a jar of turkey dinner which he ate most of. Pudding was marble cake and once again he treated it to lots of enthusiasm. I watched him grab chunks of it off his highchair tray and stuff it into his mouth, he was so very happy lol. His sister decided to get her left over cake off the table as we were clearing up and leave it in the living room. When I turned back a minute later, Morgan was sat in a pile of crumbs with her bowl next to him, he had a bit of cake in one hand and was munching happily while madam wailed "mummy, my cake!!!" I couldn't stop laughing!

Day 132

6am again, in the wise words of my 2 year old "bleugh!" But in all fairness he slept through till then.

Breakfast this morning was toast (so nice having food back in the house!) and banana porridge. Having demolished half the slice of toast he wasn't too fussed about the porridge but had a few spoons. He was a bit preoccupied with my kitchen antics anyway. Somehow, at 8am I was feeding Morgan while cooking pancakes, fixing my mobile phone and sorting out fathers day pressies on the laptop all at the same time. How's that for multi tasking!!!

My lovely mum came to see us today so the 4 of us wandered over to a toddler group. It was really lovely, the children were all outside playing in the sun while the mummies chatted with the odd break to push our little ones around on trikes or kick a ball around. Lush. Just to top things off, Morgan said "da da da" for the first time, it was so cute and he was smiling his little socks off. Just a shame daddy wasn't there to hear it but he will eventually. Afterwards we popped over to my friends and we had lunch together. Morgan had turkey dinner, which he ate 3/4 off followed by half a fruit pot. He had a really good nap once we got home.

Dinner was spaghetti bolognase fed to him by his nana. He had all of it, then finished a bowl of rice pudding. Amazing!! He did bring a bit of the bolognase back up after his bedtime bottle but I think that was just the excess he had sitting in his very full tummy.

Day 131

Why oh why does sir think that 6am is a good time to wake up and start singing. It's very sweet being woken up by bah, bah, ga, goo, goo but even sweeter at 7am lol. Once he convinced me to get up, he had strawberry and banana porridge. He did well with it, had about half the bowl. I didn't give him any finger food as, in all honesty, I had nothing to give him! We haven't had a food shop delivered in 2 weeks so have been surviving on  the stuff hidden in the freezer and at back of the cupboards. Good job I arranged a delivery for today really.

Lunch was like Piccadilly Circus, once I managed to coax little lady into her chair, grabbed little man as he whizzed passed in the walker and dished out lunch (chicken pasta bake and fruit pots after), the food shop arrived! Morgan was deeply unimpressed with the interruption and created holy hell until feeding service resumed. He must have been really hungry as he ate everything in front of him.

I thought after his lunch time efforts I would try a new meal on Morgan, shepherds pie and he loved it. He really seems to enjoy food, after my gorgeous girls food and bottle phobias at his age (she had reflux and a dairy allergy that was not picked up on till she was about 5 months old), it is such a pleasure to see. Morgan tucked away most of the shepherds pie then about half of his chocolate semolina.

He refused his bedtime bottle again, my own fault as his dinner was about 45 minutes late, then demanded a bottle just after 10pm. Lets see how tonight goes!

Day 130

After a rubbish nights sleep for Morgan and myself I really expected today to be awful, especially when you throw in hot and humid weather. I was wrong. We had a lovely day, minimal outbreaks of crying, managed to get sir up and walking while holding onto me quite a bit and the 3 of us went out for 2 short walks and spent some time in the garden without getting burnt. Morgan took quite an interest in the grass and managed to eat a handful before I could get to him. I was only a few steps away, he is so quick! Tomorrows nappies should be interesting...

Little man had an unsettled night and ended up having a bottle at 6am so I was surprised when he had an entire weetabix at 9am. He was much brighter after that and decided to belly laugh at anything his big sister did. She was only colouring but this was the bees knees and I could shove my 'this little piggy' apparently lol.

Lunch was chicken curry, I know its hot out but as little lady hadn't eaten much veggies in the last week it was time to bring in the big guns! My chicken curry is full of veg and its the only way she'll eat veggies, it also spurs her on when she sees her little brother munching away at "her food". Needless to say she had all of hers, Morgan did well too eating about 3/4 of it followed by half a fruit pot.

As little man had only slept for about 20 minutes between lunch and dinner I didn't think he'd want much and I was right. He barely ate half his pork and rice but went crazy over his pudding. Cold custard with mashed banana. I made up a huge portion and he had all but a few spoons of it. After that I knew he would refuse his bedtime bottle and I was right!

Sunday 27 May 2012

Day 129

Another lovely sunny day today but the heat is starting to take its toll on my babies. Little lady slept till 9.45 this morning, unheard of!!! And little man is still so tearful, I've reached a point now where the moment he starts to cry I think 'what now?' instead of 'what's wrong my baby?' My patience seem to have run out and I don't like myself for it. I hope this is just the peak of his seperation anxiety along with his frustration that he cannot move independently and that I'm not able to walk him around all day.

We had a late breakfast today but Morgan ate really well. He had banana porridge and a rich tea finger! He was so tired afterwards that he went back to bed and slept for 2 hours. He woke up just in time for some lunch and had chicken, noodles and veggies along with some bread sticks, he's teething again and they seem to give some relief while he crunches them. He ate about 2 thirds of lunch but didn't want any pud.

Dinner was a tad chaotic, I was trying to wash up, make salad, heat up Morgans dinner and sort out puddings  for both children all at the same time. Needless to say dinner was a little late, by the time sir sat down for dinner he was hysterical and could only be consoled with another rich tea finger. Once he finished with the biscuit, he ate half his fish pie then half his rice pudding. It took a lot of encouragement to get the food inside him but he was much happier once he'd finished.

I believe its meant to be a little cooler the rest of the week but still warm, with any luck the cooler weather will help relieve the eczema that's flared up on his arms and legs again.

Saturday 26 May 2012

Day 128

Little man woke us up for a feed at 11pm last night because he skipped his bedtime bottle. He next woke up at 5am wanting another bottle, I contemplated giving him breakfast but thought better of it as there was no chance he'd go back to sleep afterwards. He had 150ml and went back to sleep till 7.45am, I was so very grateful for a lie in lol.

I gave him breakfast at the usual time but didn't expect him to have anything. I was surprised he had over half a weetabix. I have a sneaky feeling it was using a milk alternative rather than formula that prompted him to eat.

We went to the park afterwards and met up with a mummy freind. It was lovely being out in the sunshine, having a long overdue catch up with my friend while our toddlers played and little man watched the world go by . He was over due a nap by then so  had a little hissy fit in the park but passed out fairly quickly!!

We were home  in time for lunch so I gave sir curried beef. He had 3/4 of it then a spoon of strawberry and banana puree. He was happier after that and wanted to be on his feet, no matter how tired he was or how much my back hurt. He's so tearful recently and I honestly think its because he wants to be up and walking, crawling just doesn't interest him as he gets on his front, lifts himself up then starts to cry as he can't move. I find this bit frustrating as he will sit and cry until I walk him around, difficult to keep doing with you have a toddler making constant demands and you occaisionally need to have a drink or even a wee lol. I was grateful when sir had his afternoon nap!

Dinner was vegetable risotto with chicken and he really liked it, had about 2 thirds and then munched on a slice of marble cake. The floor had more cake than him but he was happy being independent over pudding!

Friday 25 May 2012

Day 127

We dropped the dream feed and he woke up at 1.30am for a bottle then slept till 6.45am. Result!!

He had a huge breakfast too, baby rice with apple and strawberry puree. I'd made a massive portion by accident and he had all but 5-6 spoons of it. All he wanted to do was walk around the living room breaking my back after that, little menace.

I'm so hot today that I cannot be bothered to mess about in the kitchen so we've all lived on sandwiches or, in Morgan's case, jar food today lol. He had turkey sunday lunch, he wasn't that interested but still managed to eat about half the jar followed by a little bit of fruit puree.

We'd been out about 4 times for various little errands by lunch time so they were both fed up of being wheeled around in the pushchair and just wanted to play or run around. Little lady decided it was time to dance when we got home and little man desperately wanted to join in but settled for stamping on the spot. I have 2 scrummy adorable children who make me belly laugh every day!

I gave Morgan lamb and rosemary with veggies for dinner and he did really well. Had 3/4 of the jar and half a portion of chocolate blancmange that little lady demanded we make up during sirs nap.

He's refused his bedtime bottle this evening so I imagine we are in for an interesting night!

Day 126

Once again sir woke up at 4am for a bottle and wasn't interested in breakfast. I think it may be time to drop the dream feed at last, woo hoo!! I really loathe that bottle as 1 of us has to stay up late and there's still a night feed to cover usually.

We went to my mums today, she lives just over an hour away from us and we haven't been for quite a while. Both babies had a sleep in the car on the way there and woke up in very good moods once they saw their nana. Needless to say they were both spoilt rotten and had all the attention they could get. I learnt that Morgan wants to be up on his feet and walking around holding onto your fingers. He was so happy wandering around that it does explain why he's been so tearful recently, he's been bored. Ah, mummy guilt kicks in again!!!Di

Before we left Morgan was offered weetabix for breakfast, he had a few spoons then refused to eat anything. He slept through till lunch time, skipping a snack, but didn't eat as well as I expected. He had about half his salmon, sweet potato and spinach then quarter of a fruit pot. It's hot again today though so I imagine that's having an affect on his appetite still.

Dinner was chicken, veggies and pasta then chocolate rice pudding. He had maybe half of each one. He just isn't hungry at the moment.

I am a little concerned about his fluid intake though as he's not drunk much today. He doesn't seem dehydrated but he probably should be drinking more.

Day 125

Oh my is it hot! My babies seem completely oblivious but I'm melting, not that I'm complaining as this time last year I was so very pregnant and really suffering in the heat.

Morgan slept really well last night, only catch was he woke up for a bottle at 4am so by breakfast time he still wasn't hungry. I offered him crumpet and banana porridge but he barely had anything.

He didn't really want a snack later on either so by lunch he was really hungry. We went to a friends for lunch, we both have girls just days apart and our boys are 5 months apart. While we were there Morgan ate all his spaghetti bolognase but declined pudding. He was happy sat up playing most of the time afterwards, had a few tearful moments from teething and tiredness so we left just before his afternoon nap time.

Little man wasn't really interested in dinner, I think he was just too hot and bothered. He had about half his chicken pasta bake but refused pudding again.

Tuesday 22 May 2012

Day 124

Not a bad nights sleep for us all. It would appear he plays up every other night or so at the moment, I wonder if he exhausts himself with his antics one night that he just gives in to sleep the next??

Anyway, brekkie this morning was weetabix and he had 3/4 of it along with 2 fingers of toast. He seemed to really love feeding himself this morning so I let him get on with it while I dealt with DD. She still likes to be fed but is starting to become more independent again.

I had a classic toddler moment after breakfast. She's learnt how to undress herself ready for a bath, which is brilliant although I have been a little apprehensive. Today proved why, as when I managed to grab a quick shower my little lady managed to take every stitch of clothing off along with her nappy and was stood on the bath mat with the proudest smile on her face waiting for me lol.

Lunch for Morgan was late again as he stayed awake all morning and once again fell asleep just before lunch. When he woke up, he had fish pie but only had about half. He did have half a fruit pot afterwards though.

I put some of our dinner aside for little man to have along with his puree. We had roast chicken, boiled new potatos and salad, sir had a jar of harvest chicken too and ate about half of it. The finger food was a shock for him, the potato was quickly discarded but he's never really liked potato unless its hidden or a chip. He didn't like the salad, again, he never really has but always worth a try. The chicken was a success but he was so hungry that feeding himself was not a option for long so that was ignored after a few mouthfuls too.

Day 123

Little man started crying at 12.45am, I was so tired I thought that putting him in with me till he dropped off then sneaking him back in his cot, would be a good idea. Next thing I knew it was 5am. He was not impressed at being moved at that point but I managed to coax him back to sleep for another 2 hours thankfully.

I gave little man banana porridge for breakfast. He did well but he didn't eat as much as usual so I offered him a piece of banana from my breakfast. The first bite went down well but he just didn't want anymore food after that. This cold seems to be hanging onto him for some reason, while he is getting better its a slow process.

Lunch was chicken and veggies and his appetite seemed to have improved since brekkie as he ate it all, followed by rice pudding. His lunch was very late today as he was awake all morning and only fell asleep 20 minutes before his usual lunch time. I have a feeling this is the start of him changing his naps around again.

Dinner seems to always be a last minute rush at the moment, so once again I grabbed a jar! He had lamb and rosemary this time, he liked it but there wasn't the enthusiasm he usually has so I'm really hoping he just prefers my cooking for once lol.

Sunday 20 May 2012

Day 122

After being a little angel for his daddy the night before, sir clearly felt the need to play up for mummy. At 12.45am Morgan started to cry out and didn't settle down again till 2.15am. During that time he would calm down for a few minutes and drift off, then his nose would become blocked again and all hell would let loose. He fell asleep in our bed in the end but I was wide awake, which you would expect really having been screamed at for 90 minutes!!! Sometimes I feel tempted to wait for him to fall into a deep sleep then start screaming at him and see how he likes it, but I know he can cry harder and for longer than me lol.

Sir wasn't really interested in his breakfast this morning despite not having his night feed. I offered him porridge and toast, he had a little bit of it but not a great deal.

Lunch was chicken pasta bake and I thought I would try him with some cooked pasta as finger food again. I gave him my wheat free version this time and he did take a few bites before chucking it on the floor. He did eat all his chicken pasta bake then discovered the joy that is cake for afters. I gave him a slice of marble cake and the little menace ate it all, he seemed to enjoy feeding himself it.

He was much happier this afternoon and even spent about half an hour in his walker trying to break into the cupboard under the sink. Poor child seems desperate to lay his hands on the cleaning products but hasn't quite grasped that the door bounces back closed because there's a lock on it lol.

Morgan woke up very hungry from his afternoon nap so for speed I grabbed a jar of turkey dinner, he showed his appreciation for this by eating the entire jar and then half a pot of fruit puree and a blueberry! I desperately need some sleep tonight so hope all the food he's eaten today will help him sleep peacefully tonight.

Day 121

Little man slept quite well last night. Had his dream feed and night feed then woke up around 7am. DH got up with him during the night and in the morning and I am very grateful, after yesterdays antics I was shattered!!

Breakfast was half a weetabix and he had all of it. I'm relieved he's had something to eat at last, especially as it takes quite a bit to curb his appetite.

In an attempt try and encourage Morgan's appetite along, I gave him chicken curry for lunch. He did really well, eating 3/4 of the bowl and then a few spoons of chocolate semolina. I completely forgot what he'd had by dinner time and only remembered once the first spoonful of curried beef was in his mouth! He really loved it and had the lot, fingers crossed the spices don't irritate his tummy.

Day 120

I have a poorly and miserable baby boy, he's full of cold and teething at the same time. Not been a fun day for any of us today as a result, not that I blame him in the slightest.

Little man didn't have much breakfast, very unusual for him but I put it down to feel poorly and all the snot and yuck he's swallowing as a result of the cold. I offered him weetabix and a pancake but he barely touched either.

After breakfast the 3 of us met up with our antenatal friends, we are all either about to or have just moved house so I was looking forward to seeing one of the mums new home. Morgan had already been grumpy all morning despite being dosed up on pain relief and the moment we arrived he burst into tears but settled eventually. During lunch however, he started to cry again so as he due another dose I gave him some infant paracetamol. Then the retching started. I managed to catch what he brought up in his bib but after that little lady got a little tearful and anxious and little man just wouldn't settle so I left early. The car journey home was enough for madam to relax and finish her lunch and sir fell asleep, he woke up still tearful but he was happier being at home and kept down some rice pudding.

I offered him a dinner of fish pie and he had roughly half of it but no afters. I think he's exhausted himself so with any luck he'll sleep tonight. He's certainly worn me out anyway!

Thursday 17 May 2012

Day 119

I've had a very lovely and relaxed day with my babies today. They have been so good despite both being a bit poorly and we've had lots of giggles together. Just to top it off, Morgan has clapped and waved for the first time today. My little lady has also learnt the word 'man' so I'm really hoping she'll stop shouting 'daddy' at random men in the street, so embarrassing when said stranger gives you an 'alright love' with a knowing smile!!! She also drew the same picture 4 times in a row this afternoon so I had a feeling she was drawing something specific, when I asked her she said it was a dog. I appear to have a creative genius on my hands!

On to food anyway. I really fancied pancakes this morning, Morgan was paticularly appreciative of this little whim and ate a whole mini pancake along with his weetabix. Little lady has been off food for a few days but managed to eat 4 mini pancakes with strawberry jam. Good call me thinks.

Lunch time was interesting as I remembered to up little man's portion size from 3 to 4 icecubes of chicken curry and rice, he still managed to clear the bowlful though. I also gave him a small portion of apple and rhubarb crumble with oat cream. I honestly didn't think he'd like it as the ginger in the fruit was fairly strong but again he proved me wrong and ate it all. I was mighty impressed.

I wasn't sure he would eat much at dinner time as he's barely slept today but he had all his chicken pasta bake, I stuck with 3 cubes for now, then had half his chocolate semolina. He must be having some sort of growth spurt again as his appetite is ferocious. I'm constantly giving him snacks when he is awake to try and stop him crying for lunch at 10am and dinner at an equally early time. He's struggled to sleep today due to his teeth and our neighbours rather enthusiastic DIY skills.

Wednesday 16 May 2012

Day 118

I have spent barely any time at all with my babies today, I would feel guilty but I've been far too busy being pampered to care lol. My birthday pressie was booked for today so I abandoned my mum and DH with the babies and spent most of the day having a manicure, pedicure, massage, hair done, etc, it was bliss. I have been told how meal times went though so here goes:

Breakfast was strawberry and banana porridge with some toast, Morgan refused to eat the toast but had all of the porridge. I left a jar of chicken and veggies and a fruit pot for Morgan's lunch as they were going out for the afternoon, however his morning nap extended over lunch so he ate a late lunch before they left. He managed all but 2 spoons of the jar and refused pudding.

I was home for dinner but convinced my mum she really wanted to feed Morgan once again lol. In all fairness I was juggling a phone call from the children's dietitian, the food shopping delivery and trying to clear a space for the plumber that had come out to service our boiler!!! I heated up some fish pie for Morgan and he ate it all, I admit I forgot to up his portion size though. Pudding was half a pot of black cherry dairy and soya free dessert.

What on earth will I do tomorrow now mum's gone home again?

Day 117

My lovely mum has come to stay with us till tomorrow, the little ones love having their nana to play with. Mum arrived early enough to feed my babies their breakfast, toast and banana porridge, this morning and funnily enough they both ate well for her. Not that Morgan needs encouraging at the moment, his appetite is going from strength to strength.

I was a bit disorganised at lunch time and only realised the time when little man started kicking up an almighty fuss for some food!! I grabbed a jar of lamb with rosemary and vegetables for him and fed him it room temperature, he really loved it. He had 3/4 of the jar followed by half a pot of apple and blueberry.

I made a roast chicken dinner for us all so threw a roast potato, some chicken, carrot, spinach and a splash of gravy in the blender for sir. It made a really big portion for him but he had virtually all of it, just a few spoons left. He refused pudding afterwards but his tummy was so full I didn't expect him to have anything else really.

Monday 14 May 2012

Day 116

Once again Morgan has a cold. Poor child, I really hoped he was coming out of this phase but clearly not.

He slept really well till 4.30am when he started to cry out in his sleep. Putting his dummy back in bought me another 45 minutes but he then woke up and wanted a bottle. He was then awake till just after 6am and decided it was time to get up at 7am. What a fantastic nights sleep for us... Little lady did amazingly well, slept for 13 hours, just typical they managed to synchronise teething and not sleeping through lol.

Little man had weetabix and a crumpet for his breakfast. He was much more cheerful once he had some food in him! He went down for a nap quite soon after that and slept for an hour.

Lunch was a very lazy affair for us all, Morgan had a jar of ham and pasta in tomato sauce which he ate with such enthusiasm I feared for the spoon!!! 3 quarters of the jar later he gave in and started making demands for pudding, chocolate semolina, which he had half of. If this carries on I'll up his portion sizes of the home cooked food.

I gave Morgan curried beef for dinner and he ate the entire serving so tomorrow I will up the portion sizes and see how he gets on. He managed to eat half a fruit pot afterwards too.

I had an eye opening moment with sir after dinner. I put him in his baby walker while I cleared up and he managed to scoot over the the oven, then leant over the walker on his tip toes, started grabbing at the oven door handle and managed to get his finger tips on it. Our oven door drops down so I'll really need to watch him as he'll be able to pull on it before I know it.

Sunday 13 May 2012

Day 115

I've realised I haven't mentioned little man's eczema for quite a while. It's much better but hasn't completely gone away. The worst areas he used to have were behind his knees and his fingers, his knees are virtually clear except for one very small patch on each, his fingers are just the same but he does tend to chew on them paticularly when he's teething so I'm glad it's no worse. The rest of his body is clear bar a patch the size of a 5p along the nappy line at the top of his leg. Under advice from a mummy friend, I stopped giving him pear so often and it seems to help.

On to today's breakfast then. Morgan had 2 mini pancakes to play with and a bowl of strawberry and banana porridge. He had most of the porridge and probably 1 of the pancakes in total.

Lunch was chicken and sweetcorn, he ate quite a bit of it but really didn't seem to enjoy it. He took quite a long time eating and seemed to be eating because he was hungry rather than enjoying it. He's had some strong tasting foods in the last few days so I wonder if this is just a bit bland for him. He was a little more enthusiastic about the fruity custard for afters but quickly got fed up of sitting in his highchair despite nursery rhymes, games and even the telly, so he didn't have much of it.

All afternoon he was a cranky little menace, he needed to sleep but was refusing to have more than 40 mins so spent the rest of the day either crying, eating the choccie biccies DD made with me or playing with a helium balloon. He had a good dinner, fish pie then apple and strawberry puree with a little slice of cake. He was very interested in the cooked veggies I'd put on his tray and then the cake. More finger foods as part of the meal from now on I think as he loves feeding himself to the point he has to have his own spoon during mealtimes or he will wrestle the one I'm using off me.

Morgan has been quite snotty today, I really hope this isn't yet another cold as he really does deserve some time off now.

Saturday 12 May 2012

Day 114

Teething is the pits!!! Both my babies are teething again, quite how they manage to coordinate it so well is beyond me. Little lady is now chewing soft toys and dressing gown cords to ease the discomfort whereas little man takes a slightly more vocal approach. Screaming seems to be more his cup of tea. The pain of it seems to wake him up for a little scream too, last night he kicked off at 10pm and was inconsolable till the  infant ibuprofen started to work half an hour later. So far this evening I've been in to him 3 times already.

Doesn't seem to have done anything to his appetite mind. He ate all the porridge I gave him this morning and had a munch on a mini pancake too. An hour later he was hungry again so I gave him a biccie and that seemed to do the trick.

Lunch was a jar of spaghetti bolagnase, I thought it would be easier to try a jar first rather than cook a batch as DD hated the stuff lol. Morgan loved it though and had 3 quarters of the jar. He also had all his rice pudding.

Despite all the food he'd already had today, Morgan still had room for an entire bowl of chicken, pasta and  veggies (bit of a pasta overload today but he didn't seem to care), followed by a few spoons of banana custard.

I was pleasantly surprised that Morgan had some of his bedtime bottle again, with any luck he'll keep having it and I can worry about something else.

Friday 11 May 2012

Day 113

I woke up in a bit of a daze this morning because my beautiful boy sleep through last night, he didn't even stir for his dummy during the night, wow!!

My happy little man had weetabix and a crumpet for his breakfast. He loved playing with a spoon while I tried to dodge his flailing arms and get the loaded spoon in his mouth without splattering the contents everywhere. I was kind of successful, only 2 spoon loads ended up on the wall and floor.

We ate lunch at an antenatal mummy friends home, 3 toddlers and 1 baby all sat round the table munching  on bagels, sandwiches and sausage rolls was so cute. Morgan had some fish pie with his bagel, he was a hungry boy it turned out as he ate pretty much all the serving. He was getting a bit antsy by the end of the  meal so I didn't try him on pudding, he just wanted a fresh nappy and time to play it seemed.

For dinner I tried Morgan on a new meal, curried beef. Sadly the curry powder couldn't be tasted at all but it didn't stop him, he ate the entire bowl followed by half his rice pudding. He was a full and sleepy little boy after all that but any chance for a nap was firmly refused!!

After all my worrying over bottles, sir proved me wrong once again and had 160ml at bedtime. I swear my children know how to stretch my nerves to breaking point before doing what I think they should be doing. Little menaces!!!

Thursday 10 May 2012

Day 112

I blog too soon! Little man woke up for a feed at 4am lol! Ah well, one day he'll sleep through consistently.

Once we were all up and awake, my babies take after me in that they need a good half an hour to wake up fully in the morning and till then you get the silent treatment or grunts in answer to any conversation, we all had some brekkie together. Morgan had banana porridge today along with a biscuit, a pancake and a bit of banana. I was really pleased he had a few bites of banana as until now the texture has put him off.

Lunch was fun, we all had some chicken curry with rice and poppadoms together. It was Morgans first real taste of curry and he really loved it, so much so he was straining at the high chair straps to get at each spoonful. Bless him!! He had chocolate semolina afterwards, he must have thought mummy was feeling extra kind today as he was wide eyed at how yummy all his food was. He does make me chuckle!

The 3 of us had a relaxed day today, no need to get up and rush out the door for anything so we just wandered to the supermarket for some essentials after lunch then a friend and her little girl came over to play. It was really sweet seeing the 2 toddler girls and baby boy have dinner together. Morgan had pork and rice followed by apple, strawberry and blueberry puree. Again he ate really well, I was a bit surprised after all he'd eaten at lunch time.

He's still being a menace over bottles and tends not to drink anything until after sunset. Even his bedtime bottle is being refused. I'm now fretting he's not having enough formula each day and trying to reassure myself that he's doing fine and has plenty of milk alternatives in his diet. I really should ring the dietitian or health visitor just to be sure, one day I'll get the courage to contact them.

Wednesday 9 May 2012

Day 111

Little man has been doing very well overnight, he seems to sleep through the majority of the time now although he cries out in his sleep 4-5 times a night so I end up having to get up and put his dummy back in to settle him. I rememeber DD going through a stage like this and I can understand it as his sleep has been so disrupted recently, I just hope he settles back down soon.

Once he was awake, I made some toasted banana bread and weetabix for breakfast. His new hobby with finger foods seems to be mashing it in his hand then smearing it into the straps of his highchair, such fun clearing it all up afterwards. He did really well though, had most of the weetabix and quarter of the banana bread in the end.

We went to one of our regular toddler groups this morning, I always enjoy going there as its a really big space filled with toys and its lovely catching up with the other mums there. But I have to admit I did get a little frustrated today as a baby girl came crawling over and kept taking Morgans dummy/drink/biscuit/rice cake/toy off him. While I fully understand that's just what babies do, her mum was on the other side of the room chatting away with no idea what was going on and there are only so many snacks I bring with me that are safe for my children.

Lunch was salmon, sweet potato and spinach, my hungry boy ate it all along with half a pot of apple, strawberry and blueberry puree. Funnily enough he slept really well afterwards! Dinner was just as successful, he had all his cheesy chicken pasta bake and most of his black cherry dairy and soya free yogurt.

He is really cutting back on bottles it seems, his bedtime bottle has gone from 200ml to 90ml while he was poorly and doesn't seem to be coming back up again. As he seems to be cutting out his night feed too, he really isn't having much formula at all. Just something else to worry about I suppose!!!

Day 110

I thought I'd try Morgan on a crumpet at breakfast as I'm sure DD was happily eating them around his age. He seemed to really like it once he got over the shock of it not being toast or banana bread lol. He didn't have much of it though and dropped most of it on the floor, fortunately he also had banana porridge so he didn't go hungry.

The 4 of us went out to a local italian restaurant for lunch, always fun going to a restaurant and declaring that in a party of 4, 1 of us can't have wheat or dairy and 2 can't have dairy and soya. The staff there are used to us as we go fairly frequently and there's always a couple of choices on the menu for us. We took a jar of ham and pasta for Morgan but ordered him something from the children's menu anyway as we thought it would be nice for him to pick at it. Both babies had bread sticks followed by cod goujons, chips and garden peas. Little lady refused the fish and peas but ate all her chips, surprise surprise. Little man ate half the jar of food but still picked up some chips off his plate and ate them, he also had a few bites of the cod goujons with a little encouragement. Both children really enjoy going out for lunch and its a pleasure taking them out. They both enjoy the change of scenery at meal time, watching other diners and I think just seeing lots of people eating food that they aren't familiar with must encourage them to try it for themselves eventually.

Morgan had a doctors appointment after lunch as I'm worried he's been so ill for so long. Typically he had a good day today, no temperature, minimal snot, good mood and his cough had magically disappeared the moment we entered the surgery. The doctor did check him over though and said that other than a cold he is ok.  She also said that if he had a problem with his immune system one indicator would be failure to thrive, as he's eating well, gaining weight and following the same centile since birth he's doing just fine. It would seem he's just been unfortunate to have picked up everything that's been going round, apparently it will help to build his immune system for later life but its hard for us all at the moment.

By dinner time Morgan was hungry, tired and miserable, its the first day we've not had to dose him up with pain relief in quite a while so he did really well. We gave him some infant paracetamol then fed him beef casserole followed by rice pudding. He had about half of each before giving up, I think he just felt poorly as bedtime was approaching so just wasn't that interested.

As we've had a good day today, I really won't be surprised if he wakes up tomorrow poorly with something else. I just hope he doesn't as he really does deserve a break from it all. Despite everything he's been through, in the last week he's found his voice so our home is filled with the sound of toddler giggles and baby babble, lush! He's also discovered he can stand up on his own by holding onto the sofa, we have to put him there as he can't pull himself up yet but the smile on his face when he realises he's doing it himself is gorgeous.

Day 109

My little man slept through last night, I'm deeply impressed! Must mean he's catching up on all the sleep he lost last week. I managed to wake up full of his cold though, yay me...

DH fed Morgan his brekkie of half a weetabix this morning and he ate it all. I have just been told that he sprinkled a tiny bit of sugar on it which must have encouraged him along, funny that little bit of information only came out 12 hours later lol.

I wasn't home for their lunch time, a yummy mummy friend said the magic words "tea, cafe, you free?" and I went skipping out the door ;-) . DH gave Morgan chicken casserole but he was unsettled then started crying so only had about a third of it and refused pudding. Not sure why he was like it, can only imagine the infant paracetamol was wearing off and he felt yucky. When I got back an hour later, Morgan put his arms up for a cuddle and fell asleep in my arms. Lovely welcome home from my baby boy, made me feel all needed and loved.

I'd had an experiment making fish pie last night so tried Morgan on some for his dinner. I did cod in white sauce  then topped it with sweet potato and squash instead of potato. I really don't like fish pie as I find it very bland but this was alright and Morgan seemed to agree. He had about 3 quarters of the bowl and refused pudding again, he happily munched on a bourbon biscuit though. Its made me think he's about ready to move onto more finger foods and less mush, I can but try I suppose.

Sunday 6 May 2012

Day 108

Thankfully it's been a much more normal day for us all today. Morgan is still full of cold but his temperature is normal and he is able to sleep without being in my arms and for longer than 20 minutes before his nose gets blocked and he wakes up in a panic.

He managed some breakfast this morning too, it was only a small amount but it was progress. I gave him strawberry and banana porridge as it mixes to a smooth consistency. A short while later he also had almost all of a mini pancake too, I had given him some infant paracetamol so it must have kicked in by then!

For lunch I thought I'd try Morgan on some chicken pasta bake as its one of his favourites. He really enjoyed it and had 2 thirds of the bowl followed by half a bowl of rice pudding. I was amazed, it was so lovely him enjoy food again too.

Dinner was salmon, sweet potato and spinach. He did very well again, eating about half the serving then demolished a bourbon biscuit afterwards. In fact, he enjoyed the biscuit so much that when he accidentally dropped it he burst into tears and could only be consoled with another biscuit. That's my boy!!!

Hopefully he'll continue to improve but I still intend to take him to be checked over on Tuesday. I just worry that the constant illness is taking its toll on him and/or is an indicator that something else is amiss. But I really hope that actually, I'm just being over protective.

Days 105, 106 and 107

Well I found out why little man wasn't interested in his dinner on Wednesday, he woke up Thursday morning full of cold and has been miserable since. He's barely slept unless he has skin to skin contact with me and he is off food and formula. Even getting him to drink water has been difficult and all I can do is keep him dosed up with infant paracetamol and ibuprofen. It's been a heartbreaking, sleepless, frustrating and upsetting few days but thankfully he is on the mend again. I am taking him to the doctors on Tuesday though as he has been ill pretty much non stop since Christmas and while I know that babies and young children are prone to catching colds, etc, it seems to be beyond that. He literally has 1 day between illnesses where he seems happy then the next day he's poorly again, it can't be right.

As Morgan's appetite has been non existent, except for the odd spoon of rice pudding, please excuse me just glossing over the last few days. I've really struggled to juggle a bored toddler and a poorly baby along with DH working nights.

Wednesday 2 May 2012

Day 104

Little man did so well last night, he slept till 6.30am and only woke up once for his night bottle. He seems much more cheerful today, he still got a little antsy over his morning nap though did eventually drop off in the pushchair while we were out.

Today was the dreaded dietitian appointment for them both, I felt quite apprehensive today as I was sent a letter saying Morgan would not be getting any more of his formula once he turns 1. I'm not happy with this as it barely gives him a chance to move on from the allergy and I'm forced to mess about with his milk. Fortunately the dietitian agreed with me and he'll keep the formula till he's 2. It was a nightmare appointment for other reasons though, so many rude people in a small space never leaves you feeling good though does it? I had 1 person almost hit my double buggy in the car park, clinic was running over an hour late which is fun when you have a baby and a toddler to amuse in the mean time, a nurse burst into the room, whacked the buggy with the door then told me off for parking it there, then as I tried to leave I found the waiting area had all the lights turned off and the door locked so I couldn't get out. Really not happy and will be complaining. At least that's it for another 4 months anyway.

But anyway, onto Morgans food for the day. Breakfast was toasted banana bread and strawberry and banana porridge. He had most of the porridge and once again decorated my floor with toast crumbs, bless him...
Lunch was lamb and sweet potato, he was forced to eat it sat up in the buggy in the middle of the hospital waiting room so I was amazed he ate it all. Didn't want any fruit puree afterwards though.

He really wasn't interested in dinner, not sure it it was because he just wasn't that hungry or because I gave him chicken and sweetcorn and he wasn't too keen on the flavour. He had less than half of it and was whingey right through dinner and pudding (rice pud that he barely touched) only stopping when I took him out the highchair. Next time he has it will be telling I suppose.

Tuesday 1 May 2012

Day 103

Just the 1 wake up from Morgan last night, I was quite impressed as I expected him to be a complete nightmare after yesterdays antics.

He had a really good breakfast, half a weetabix, and has been happy this morning. Well, until I tried to put him down for a nap. Not sure if I just tried to put him down too early or he really has a problem with his cot. He napped in his pushchair instead as I took the babies over to the library for story time.

Morgan was so much happier after his nap and had chicken pasta bake and chocolate semolina for lunch. Lots of giggles, smiles and playing, it was really lovely having my happy baby back. He ate really well too, all the pasta bake and half the semolina.

I gave little man lamb stew for dinner, he had all but a few spoons and then had half an apple and blackcurrant fruit pot.

We shall see tomorrow if this cold is really on its way out.

Day 102

Hmmmm, little man was a mischief last night. He woke for a bottle at 10pm and decided it was play time. 2 hours later he was still bouncing around so I put him in his bouncer chair, turned all the lights and tv off, lay down on the sofa with my back to him and let him get on with it. Next thing I knew it was 1.15am and he was fast asleep. After that he slept through in his cot till 7am.

DH fed little man banana porridge for breakfast and I was impressed with just how much Morgan actually ate, he did better than if I fed him!!

After brekkie we all went out to a farm centre, it was lovely seeing little lady running around, puddle jumping and refusing point blank to go on the tractor ride lol. Morgan was happiest either in my arms or sat in a swing watching the world go by. He had a jar of chicken and veggies while we were out followed by a fruit pot and he had 3 quarters of each.

We hoped he would sleep in his pushchair afterwards, how foolish. Instead we had a screaming baby boy who refused to sleep for more than the 30 minute car journey home. He only fell asleep after dinner, chicken casserole, and slept for 2 hours right across bath and bedtime. Fortunately he woke in a much better mood and was only awake till 9pm. As he had such a late bottle, we skipped the dream feed so are fully prepared for at least 1 wake up from him during the night.

Day 101

I'm fast reaching the limits of my patience and I don't like myself for it. My babies are both going through the mill and I'm exhausted looking after them both, especially with DH working all sorts of weird shifts. Little lady is still teething and having a huge growth spurt, its left her tired and hungry all the time though I have to admit its a luxury seeing her eat so well. Little man is teething and still has this cold, its pathetic seeing him desperate to chew on his toys/my finger/his sisters leg but having to let go after a few seconds as his nose is so blocked he can't breathe properly. He also isn't sleeping very well during the day leaving him very cranky and irritable.

Breakfast today was weetabix and toasted banana bread. He did very well, 3 quarters of a weetabix eaten and he nibbled at the banana bread.

Lunch was a turkey, rice and veg jar affair. It was a bit weird as when I heated it up it became a little watery but the colder it got the more watery it became and in the end I had to stir some baby rice in it to thicken it up enough for it to stay on the spoon. Morgan loved it though so if I do pick up another one I'll have to remember not to heat it up! He had a fruit pot afterwards but only had a few spoons as he was full.

For dinner he had chicken pasta bake followed by custard with pear and apple. Despite a huge lunch he had virtually all of both. I'm hoping it means he will sleep better tonight now he has a very full tummy.

Saturday 28 April 2012

Day 100

Little mans cold is really out now, he is struggling with laying flat at night as his nose gets blocked and raising the cot is pointless now as he spins round in his sleep and ends up with his head at the bottom of the slope and it makes it worse for him. He woke me up every 2 hours or so last night just needing some more decongestant and cuddles, by 4am I’d had enough so he spent the last few hours in bed with me and he slept then till 7.30am. Needs must and all that.

I really thought his appetite would be affected by his cold and lack of sleep but who am I trying to kid?? He ate all the instant porridge I’d made him, had a good try of the toast and even had half a mini pancake. I really should learn that he has my appetite, not much comes between us and our food lol.

Morgan had salmon, sweet potato and spinach for lunch, I’d made a batch yesterday evening as I’d run out so kept some aside for him. I didn’t realise how big a portion I’d kept aside but he wasn’t fazed, he just kept letting me spoon it in between giggles and demands for water. He was a bit full after that but still had some apple and pear puree.

After lunch DD wanted to play her current favourite game which involves her getting as many of us, including Morgan, to sit on the floor as she can muster then she sits with us and rolls her little pink ball to each person. For some reason both her and her brother think this is the funniest thing on earth and are in hysterics laughing throughout. The little game left Morgan so tired he was crying his heart out for about 10 minutes until he fell asleep.

Dinner was lamb roast. Lamb seems to be his favourite food and he wasted no time in eating virtually all of it. I’d made up some custard again for pudding and mixed in the rest of the apple and pear puree, he had about 3 quarters of it but took his time about this one.

I’ve had a read of all the ingredients in the jars I’ve picked up and had a little bit of inspiration. Noodles and red peppers aren’t foods I usually eat as I don’t really like them but I will get some in and have a go at creating some different dishes.

Fingers crossed for a better night all round, I really cannot stomach the thought of being up every 2 hours again.

Friday 27 April 2012

Day 99

Not a bad nights sleep all round really. Morgan had a huge feed at 3.30am, then slept till just after 7am. When he woke up he didn't really seem that hungry, but when offered some breakfast he suddenly seemed to find his appetite. I gave him banana and strawberry porridge this morning and he had most of the bowl.

We went out to a local cafe for lunch with my mum and sister, it was really lovely. I always find it difficult to heat up home made baby food when I'm out as some places provide microwaves for public use and others will just about give you some warm water and expect you to heat up fridge cold puree with it, so I just took a jar of baby food for him to try. Today it was chicken with noodles. The first room temperature mouthful took him by surprise but after that he was away and ate just over half the jar. He had half a pot of apple and blueberry puree afterwards and was very full and sleepy, so sweet to see.

Dinner was pork and rice and he was fed by his nana. He was quite happy with this as he had a new person to baffle with his sudden refusals to eat anymore until he's batted the loaded spoon out of their hand lol. I have to hand it to my mum, she managed to get more in him than I normally do! He had a few spoons of chocolate semolina after but was too full for much more.

Thursday 26 April 2012

Day 98

It’s been one of those days I’d like to delete and start again please. It started off well, little lady woke me up at 7am and little man joined us half an hour later. We all had toasted banana bread together, and my babies had some instant porridge too. Morgan ate really well and had fun throwing things on the floor and watching where they land.

I had an appointment to attend just before lunch, I was only meant to be gone an hour or so but due to numerous hold ups I didn’t get back for 3 hours. I really missed my little family. I left DH a jar of turkey dinner and some apple and pear with custard for Morgan. I’m told he ate half the jar and really liked it but was too full afterwards for pudding.

Dinner was chicken, veggies, pasta and cheese, dairy and soya free of course ;-) , with rice pudding for afters. About half an hour into his afternoon nap Morgan woke up screaming and didn’t settle again despite being so tired. As a result he didn’t really have a great deal of his dinner or pudding so I’ve put him to bed a bit earlier than normal in the hope he catches up with a bit of missed sleep.

I’m hoping we all have a better day tomorrow. Both my babies are teething so are a bit grumpy anyway, Morgan now has a cold on top which has aggravated his reflux and little lady seems to be having a huge growth spurt as she won’t stop eating for once and is sleeping more than normal.

Wednesday 25 April 2012

Day 97

Naps were the theme for today. Morgan wanted one this morning but was having too much fun at the playgroup so slept through his lunch instead, DD then shocked me by falling asleep on the sofa for the 2nd day in a row, she dropped her daytime nap months ago so this is unheard of! Then little man decided he wanted a nap halfway through dinner, slept till bathtime and has not long fallen asleep again. Oops!

Sirs breakfast today was banana porridge and he had quite a bit of it. I didn't really have anything suitable to give him as finger food so he had a spoon to play with instead. I've also run out of bread as little lady managed to get to the freshly made loaf the other day, picked a hole in the side and ate about half of the bread inside, I was in fits of laughter when I found what she'd done as the loaf looked perfect from the other side!!!

When little man eventually woke up for it, lunch was chicken pasta bake which he ate very happily. Its funny as when pasta is in a meal he will happily eat it, but give him some to feed himself and he won't even touch it. Must be a texture thing?

Dinner was eventful due to Morgan's little protest over going back to bed! He was happily eating lamb stew then suddenly started to get a little upset and refused more stew. I thought he'd had enough so started him on custard with apple and pear. He had a few mouthfuls then just screamed till he fell asleep in his daddys arms, was heartbreaking yet very sweet to see.

Tuesday 24 April 2012

Day 96

Breakfast today was fingers of toast and banana multigrain porridge. After waking me up at 06.00 by screaming at the top of his lungs he was a hungry boy and ate really well...

I did another mix of chicken and cheesy pasta bake for lunch and again he ate well but refused pudding afterwards. His little cheeks seem flushed and he's chewing on his fingers so I think his teeth are moving around again and it tends to affect his appetite too.

I made it to the shops today and picked up 4 jars of baby food. I feel oddly torn about feeding it to him, probably because DD refused point blank to eat them which made sure I always had a freezer full of food for her lol. The thing that really got me was he could not get enough of the jar food after the first spoonful, it was like I'd never fed him anything so tasty in his life, little menace!!!!!!!!!! I plan to stick to feeding him mostly homemade food still, more than anything its to punish him for preferring jars lol!! I also noticed that most of the jars were bulked out with wheat which isn't ideal, I have a wheat allergy myself to try to be a bit careful how much I give the babies, the only time I cook with wheat flour is when I make a loaf of bread for sandwiches or toast, even my banana bread is wheat free. I will see if there is a brand that's more appropriate for him but for now I have a couple of different choices to hand when I need them.

Day 95

Well it's been raining all day here so we've just had a lazy day at home rather than venture outside. Lots of drawing (mainly all over the dining table instead of the paper), kids films on tv and making structures from megabloks and letting Morgan smash them up.

Morgan had weetabix for brekkie, I can tell he's feeling much better as he ate almost an entire biscuit! Lunch was a combination of the chicken, potato and veggies and a bit of the cheesy pasta bake mixed together and actually he seemed to really like it this time. I may have to work on the cheesy pasta bake again to make it more to his taste.

I gave little man pork and rice for dinner. I'd forgotten how chunky I'd made it but he didn't seem fazed by it bless him. He must have had about half and I could see him really chewing each mouthful, it served as a reminder to be a bit more gentle with the blender!

Day 94

I have spent most of today in the kitchen batch cooking for my babies. In the hours I spent in there I made a loaf of bread, chocolate semolina, lamb curry, chicken curry, baby version of lamb roast dinner, chicken and sweetcorn and chicken pasta bake. My freezer is over flowing yet I can only offer a limited choice of lunches and dinners to Morgan as there is only so much time I have to spend in the kitchen. I think it may be time to introduce a few jars of baby food and see how he responds. I have nothing against preprepared baby food so please don't get me wrong, its more I struggle to find baby food that doesn't include dairy, soya or parsnip and I enjoy making up and freezing portions of food for them both. With 2 children to provide for and a husband that works shifts, it becomes quite a challenge to keep on top of it.

Anyway, today I gave Morgan the strawberry and banana porridge, he wasn't quite so enthusiastic as last time but still had a good amount. He also had a mini pancake to eat, he seemed to enjoy eating it but much prefered to pick little bits of it of and stick them to the highchair tray.

For lunch, little man had lamb stew. It was the last portion in the freezer so I did advise him to make the most of it, but he was too busy trying to grab the spoon and/or bowl off me. Even giving him breadsticks to hold didn't distract him and he wore more of the food than he ate.

Funnily enough by dinner time he was very hungry! As I hadn't put it in the freezer yet, I dished up some of the pasta bake for him and he left me with a clean bowl lol. His pudding was choc semolina and he ate all but a spoonful of it.

Tomorrow I will have a look for a few jars of food to try him on, I don't intend to stop making his meals but it should ease some of the pressure I'm feeling.

Monday 23 April 2012

Day 93

Today I tried little man on banana multi grain porridge, he was unimpressed and even threw in a few little retches between mouthfuls just to make his point. Next time I'll make it a bit thinner I think.

His lunch was lamb stew, which went down a treat as usual, and he had rice pudding afterwards. He had most of both and didn't kick up any fuss today. For his dinner I gave him chicken sunday lunch along with a few spears of broccoli as fingerfood. Oh the mess! It just goes everywhere and all he does is bite the tops off before discarding the rest. It didn't really help giving my toddler girl some too, she just poked it off her plate onto the floor while bellowing "noooo mummy!", shes never really been one for vegetables...

Dinner was a little more civilised, Morgan had beef stew followed by custard. He had a fair bit of both so hopefully he'll keep up the good sleep pattern he's getting back into.

Day 92

Not a bad night at all, both babies slept really well and Morgan only woke up once and that was for a feed at around 2am. I feel a bit more human for some sleep!

I tried little man on the strawberry and banana baby porridge and he loved it, I made quite a large bowlful by accident and he had almost all of it. He was doing the spoon grabbing bit again so I gave him his own. He was trying so hard to feed himself but just couldn't get it, and whenever he did it just dripped off the spoon all over him. He was very proud of himself though lol.

Lunch was salmon, sweet potato and spinach followed by fruit puree. He had just over half of each then fell fast asleep for 2 and a half hours. Amazing what a full tummy does to a baby!

I really need to do some cooking for him as I'm rapidly running out of baby food. I did manage to find some chicken, potato and veggies so mixed it with a bit of the cheesy pasta bake he wasn't so keen on, I'm loathed to throw out an entire bag of frozen baby food without trying him a few times first. He had a little bit of it before he started fussing. I couldn't tell if it was because he didn't like the taste or it he just wasn't that hungry although he refused pudding too so I imagine he just didn't want much to eat.

Thursday 19 April 2012

Day 91

I'm a bit shocked it's only been 3 months since I started weaning Morgan. He's doing so well with his food and his appetite is going from strength to strength despite being poorly, I'm a very proud mummy :-)

He did really well overnight too, no screaming fits, both bottles were finished and he fell asleep straight after each one with no complaints. He did have 2 further wake ups but he was settled very quickly both times by just stroking his face and replacing his dummy.

I went back to an old favourite of his for brekkie, pear and baby rice! He couldn't get enough of it and starting windmilling his arms with excitement, shame he doesn't understand that by doing that he gets less as mummy tends to wear quite a bit when he inevitably knocks the spoon flying lol. As I promised myself yesterday, I have picked up 2 other cereals for him to try, one is a banana porridge made with rice and corn and the other is a multigrain banana porridge. It would appear I could either get banana, stone fruit or creamy cereals, so not a huge amount of choice for him as he cannot have stone fruit or milk, I remember DD had a muesli type cereal when she was tiny so I'll have to see if I can track it down again.

Lunch was a new one for him as I'd made up pork and rice with veggies. He thoroughly enjoyed it and even coped very well with it being a chunkier meal than he's used to. I gave him a fruit pot for afters but he only had a few spoons before refusing any more, fair enough really as it was a very filling meal he'd eaten.

I did do some research on pork as I have never seen a baby food recipe containing pork and don't recall seeing any jar or pouch meals with it in either. It would seem that it's ok to introduce it once baby is used to eating white meats, just don't have it too often as it is a fatty meat and make sure it is thoroughly cooked as you would anyway I suppose!

Dinner was lamb stew, he had about half but I think he was still full from lunch time. I'd made up custard for him too but he only had a small amount of that. I must have already done a good job of filling him up today guess!!

Tomorrow I'll see what  he makes of the new cereals.

Wednesday 18 April 2012

Day 90

Little man seems to be better again today, his recovery is slow but he's doing so well. He seems to have switched his naps around though, it used to be he'd have a short nap (maybe 30-40 minutes) in the morning and up to 2 hours in the afternoon but the last 2 days its been the other way around. I hope he swaps them back again as the toddler groups we go to tend to be in the morning!

Having realised that Morgan has had weetabix every morning for the last week, I made up some porridge for him and added a spoon of fruit puree. I also gave him some fingers of toast with dairy free spread which he devoured. The porridge went down well too, but only when I managed to put the spoon into his mouth quicker than he managed to get the toast in there lol.

For lunch, DH gave him chicken sunday lunch followed by apple, pear and raspberry puree. I'm told he did well, I had an appointment to go to so only made it back in time to see him gobble up the fruit puree, bless him!

I gave Morgan chicken, potato and veggies for his dinner. He had all but a few spoons of it but was crying between each spoonful, turns out he was so hungry I couldn't feed him fast enough and it only got worse while giving him rice pudding, he has such as sweet tooth lol. Afterwards he was still giving me his hungry cry so I gave him half a digestive biscuit, while I'm not convinced he has eaten it all I cannot find the remnants of it anywhere, so maybe he did??

I need to sort out some different brekkies for him, I seem to rely on porridge and weetabix and he will get very bored of it soon.

Tuesday 17 April 2012

Day 89

Well, last night my beautiful boy seemed to turn a corner with this virus. He slept from 8pm till 7am with just 2 wake ups for bottles and no extended screaming fits. Bliss! He woke for the first bottle about 11pm but it took half an hour before he would wake up and actually drink it, I think we'll reintroduce the dream feed and see if it helps. Second wake up was about 4am and he was ready for a bottle so there was no fussing and he went straight back to sleep.

His appetite is returning too. Morgan ate half a weetabix for brekkie and he seemed to really enjoy it for the first time in days. His lunch was salmon, sweet potato and spinach and amazingly he cleared the bowl then ate half a fruit pot, after all that he was a happy boy and spent the next few hours playing peek a boo and ripping up catalogues lol.

His dinner was lamb roast and while he did fuss over it, he ate 2 thirds of it. I didn't expect that as he'd had such a good lunch. He ate all his chocolate semolina though and still seemed hungry so scoffed a bourbon biscuit too.

Fingers crossed his recovery will continue, he's really suffered with this virus and it's about time it left him alone.
