Day 8

Gone back to feeding sir at lunch time, his appetite this morning seemed a little better for it as he took more milk than he has been.

Daddy had a go at spoon feeding today, he managed to get the 4 grain porridge all over Morgan's face, the bumbo he's sat in and on his clothes but none in his mouth and the bib was immaculate!

Day 7

Hmmmm, really not sure breakfast agrees with him as he's now taking even less of his bottle in the morning then at lunch time he's suddenly really hungry. I think I'll change him back to lunch time solids tomorrow. I've given him 4 grain baby porridge again this morning, he liked it more than yesterday and had about a tablespoon of it.

My daughter is still demanding to be spoon fed but at least she's having a go herself again, she gets about halfway through her meal then hands her spoon to me lol. She really is cheeky and there's no resisting that little smile of hers!!!

I've loaded up my steamer with parsnip, carrot and swede this evening and will puree and freeze it for little man. I'd forgotten just how demanding weaning can be on your time but I'm still enjoying it. It is lovely having one that is so enthusiastic about food, I know its early days but the difference between my babies is incredible.

Day 6

Morgan seems much brighter today bless him, when I picked him up out of his cot this morning he smiled at me and has been so calm and cheerful, he's still a bit snotty though.

I've decided to try him on some 4 grain baby porridge instead of carrying on with the potato again. He wasn't quite as enthusiastic as before but I suppose it's quite bland next to sweet potato. He took even less of his morning bottle than normal too so maybe he's still feeling a bit rough? I'll keep an eye and move it back to lunch again if needs be.

Day 5

My poor baby boy is so unhappy, its breaking my heart. He's teething, has a cold and his reflux is flaring up again. He cried for 4 hours today and it was right across his lunch so I haven't offered him any solids. I think the weaning is aggravating the reflux, I remember this happening with my toddler girl too so while its not unexpected, it is awful seeing him suffer. I will also move the solids to breakfast time to see if it will

If he's up to it tomorrow, I'm going to move his solids to breakfast time to see if it helps with the reflux and maybe kick start his appetite for the day as he takes so little before lunch.

Day 4

Well sweet potato mixed with a little formula went down a treat! Little man grinned at me through the entire meal, ate a tablespoon of it and then happily finished his bottle. I'm really enjoying this experience so far and can't wait to see what else he likes. I am going to try every new food for 3 days before moving on because of the history of allergies in my family. My daughter is allergic to dairy and soya, for me its dairy and wheat and other immediate relatives are allergic to nuts, tomatoes and eggs, oh what fun!!

Second and third days

Well, after 2 more days of baby rice, I think he's ready for something with a bit more flavour. Morgan is still attacking the spoon with gusto and has finished the 2 teaspoons of baby rice both days, he does have a tendency to wear quite a bit of it and smiles at me as I clean him up, little cutie! Going to stay with a lunch time feeding time for now although I'm starting to wonder if I should move it to breakfast as his appetite really goes up in afternoon but mornings aren't so great. I'll see how he goes though. One side effect of weaning Morgan seems to be his sister now wants spoon feeding more often. She's happy to eat finger foods herself but when a spoon is involved she hands it to me and expects to be fed. I'm playing along for now and hoping she starts feeding herself again soon.

First day of weaning

Hi, I'm Jenny but I'm more often called 'daddy' by my confused 2 year old daughter lol. I'm also mummy to my 5 month old son called Morgan. Both my babies were born with dairy and soya allergies and I found weaning my daughter very intimidating, so knowing there are many parents out there that are in similar positions I feel compelled to share Morgans' great weaning adventure with you.

Day 1

After seeing my mini man staring at anyone that was eating and watching his chubby little hands waving around trying to steal food from us, I think he may be ready for something a bit more than milk. I've started him on a little baby rice made up with his formula. I'm beginning with a lunch time meal but may move it around depending on how he goes.

The first spoonful of rice was quite something, realising he was being fed something a little substantial, he tried to grab the spoon with both hands and was furiously sucking the rice off the spoon. I was in fits of laughter watching him!!! It felt cruel only allowing him a few spoons of something he so clearly loved but I don't want to push my luck on the first day and he still had a bottle to finish.

Tomorrow, I'll offer him a little more and see what he makes of it.
