Day 72

Much better nights sleep thankfully, it would seem that dosing both babies with decongestants and pain relief helped them both sleep better. Morgan did end up waking at 5.30am for a bottle, he was rather vocal about it too so I have no idea how DD managed to sleep through his screaming.

Because of the 5.30 bottle I really didn't think he would be interested in breakfast, but he had about half his banana porridge. I made it up with oat milk instead of formula and didn't offer a bottle afterwards like I normally would in the hope he'd then have lunch at a normal time. It seemed to work as he had his chicken, potato and veggies just after midday, although kicked up a fuss halfway through so I ended up alternating his chicken and his custard just to try and get more in him.

Dinnertime was great fun today! I gave little man beef casserole with some spears of broccoli as finger foods. To start with Morgan was just prodding the broccoli but quickly picked it up and started biting into it. Once he'd had enough he smeared it over the highchair and dining table, sprinked it over the floor and rubbed it into his hair. I was quite glad DH wasn't home yet as the mess would have freaked him out lol. Best thing about it was seeing DD watching Morgan with the broccoli. She tends not to eat veg unless it's cooked into a meal. I didn't expect her to touch her own broccoli as it can take at least 10 exposures to a new food for a toddler to even consider trying it.

I think tomorrow i will make some semolina for little man and see if he likes it.

Friday 30 March 2012

Day 71

Famous last words at the end of yesterdays blog, we had a horrid nights sleep. Both my babies are coming down with something. DD has a raised temperature and has been crying out frequently all night. Little man was ok till about 3am when he woke up with a nappy full of nastiness, then couldn't settle again till about 5am. Both little menaces were up again at about 7.30 ready for their breakfast.

I gave Morgan instant porridge again but he wasn't too interested in eating, he really just wanted a bottle. I've been offering him finger foods all morning but he just doesn't have much appetite. I rang the doctors in the end and managed to get an appointment. When he was examined, I was told his chest is clear but he does have an upper respiratory infection. The mucus he is swallowing because of the infection has caused the change in his bowel  habits but it should be better in a few days. Poor baby boy.

Before lunch we dosed Morgan up with infant paracetamol as he was getting a little tearful. Once it kicked in his appetite was raging. I heated up some lamb stew, which he ate all of, and gave him some rice pudding for afters which he really enjoyed. Funnily enough he refused his bottle and had a lovely sleep after all that food lol.

Dinner was more eventful, about a third of the way through his bowl of chicken, tomato and veggies, he decided he'd had enough and starting screaming. He was inconsolable for a few minutes and I can still only assume it was just because he felt poorly. Once he settled down I tried him on some custard and he had about half the bowl.

I'm hoping today is his worst day as he has been so upset and snuffly all day. He's also struggling to breathe when he lays flat as all the snot and mucus builds up, so he will be spending the night reclining in his bouncer chair I'm afraid. Fingers crossed he feels a bit better tomorrow, though no doubt it will be my little lady's turn to be a poorly baby.

Day 70

Little man isn't himself. His appetite isn't so great and he's drinking half the normal amount of milk, his eczema is flaring up and his chest seems wheezy and rattling when he first sits up. Have to admit I'm a little concerned it may be hayfever or something, if he's the same tomorrow I'll ring the doctors.

He's gone through the night without a bottle again. He did his usual whingey bit during the night but didn't wake up fully and settled back down after a cuddle. I managed to get him back in his cot this time lol.

Sir was a bit anxious for his breakfast when we got up so I put him in his highchair and gave him a biscuit to keep him quiet while I cracked on, he really appreciated the sentiment and I didn't hear a peep out of him after that! Thought I'd try something different for Morgan's breakfast, so I gave him some instant porridge made up with formula and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I only made up a small amount and he had all but a spoonful. Will be trying that again then.

Lunch was a disaster. As my mum was with us, we took both babies to the local gymnastics centre as they have a toddler session every weekday. While we were there he munched on some rice cakes but I could tell he was starting to want some lunch. By the time we got back he was was screaming for lunch so I gave him salmon, sweet potato and spinach but ended up wearing most of it, he did have enough to satisfy him and he fell to sleep straight after having refused pudding or a bottle. When he woke up 40 minutes later I tried him again on beef casserole, this was refused completely so I gave up.

By dinner time he was very hungry again despite snacking on a gingerbread man's head!! I heated up some chicken and veggies for him and he reluctantly ate the lot. I had to distract him with lots of toys, drinks, games of peek a boo to get it in him but hey ho. Pudding was a no no, I barely showed it to him and he burst into tears and put his arms up for cuddles, how could I resist??

As he's only had an hours sleep in total today, I really hope he has a good nights sleep.

Wednesday 28 March 2012

Day 69

So 3 in a row he's now slept through, I'm stunned. Did have a 2.30am grumble from him but mummy cuddles sorted that out and he went back into his cot again... ok so it was 2 hours later and we had fallen asleep together, but into his cot he went eventually. Must try harder lol.

Again he was a hungry boy this morning, while I made up some weetabix I gave him a gingerbread man to eat just to stop him crying, worked like a charm. He had most of his breakfast afterwards too, result.

Lunch was beef casserole and apple and pear crumble with oat cream. He loved it! I gave him a highchair toy to play with too as he was a bit antsy, but that was mainly tiredness it turns out as afterwards he refused his bottle and fell asleep.

It all went a bit wrong at dinner time. I gave him some chicken puree and he started off quite well, he must have had about half the bowl when he started to rub his eyes then burst into tears. I couldn't calm him down so ended up putting him to bed, poor boy was so tired that he was asleep by the time I got him into his sleeping bag. Half an hours sleep later, he had 2 thirds of a pot of apple and blueberry puree mixed with baby rice.

I had a sudden realisation this evening that it may be fruit upsetting his tummy. He does have quite a bit of fruit puree as its an easy pudding, I will cut it out for a day or 2 and see if that helps. I already feel the mummy guilt creeping in over this one!!!

Day 68

So he's slept through for 2 nights in a row now, this is nice! Only thing is he starts to fuss around 5am and being a lazy moo myself at that ungodly hour, I've just picked him up and fallen back to sleep with him next to me. I really need to knock that habit on the head asap as I can see him wanting cuddles earlier and earlier.

As sir was rather hungry when he woke up, I gave him banana porridge as it's so quick to do. I made it much thinner than I normally do and he seemed to enjoy it more. I grabbed a gingerbread man for him to chew on, he munched on the head then tucked the soggy remains between him and the highchair, lovely mess for mummy to deal with.

I've started to give little man snacks between his meals as he's been getting a little irritable and it seems to help. Today he had raspberry and blueberry rice cakes, by the time he finished there was very little left so I'll be getting them again then!

For his lunch I gave him bolognase and pasta. He seemed to really like the taste but I put too much pasta in so he lost interest very quickly. Lesson for mummy has been learnt, I'll pour out the dry pasta then half the amount before cooking it next time. In the end I gave him salmon, sweet  potato and spinach. He really seems to enjoy strong flavours. It's made me have a think about making a fish pie for him.

Dinner was chicken, tomato, potato and veggies. He left quite a bit and was very tearful. He has only slept for an hour today though so that will affect his appetite. He was much keener on the fruit pot afterwards but still only had about a third.

Lots more teeth are also on the way so he's chewing and dribbling on everything, he also has an upset tummy which I think is linked to it. Poor baby.

Day 67

I have 2 very tired and irritable babies today. I can understand it after yesterdays fun and games, I'm tired too!

Breakfast was 4 grain porridge and a spoon of fruit puree. Being so tired he wasn't very keen but had a little bit. He much prefered the finger of toast I gave him with it and spent most of the time pulling it apart and throwing it on the floor. Little monster. Later in the morning Morgan was kicking up a fuss as he was hungry, 'you should have eaten some breakfast then child' was my first thought, I think he liked my second thought of 'oh ok, have a biscuit then if it shuts you up' lol. He devoured a rich tea finger in record time, thats my boy :-)

I made up some chicken, potato and veggies for sirs lunch, he was much more enthusiastic despite having a biscuit. I also gave him some sticks of cooked carrot to chew on but he didn't really get on with them, he would take a bite and chew but then spat it all back out again. His puree went down a treat though.

Dinner was lamb stew, he always does well with lamb so I thought I'd make it easier on myself by offering a favourite as we are all so tired today. I was right to do so as he had most of the bowl and happily had most of a fruit pot afterwards.

I've got some mince out to make bolognase tomorrow, I fairly sure he'll like it, I just have concerns about pasta as it seems to be something you either love or hate and he really isn't one for textures.

Sunday 25 March 2012

Day 66

We've had another really lovely day, makes me realise just how lucky I am to have my wonderful little family.

To start the day I gave little man half a weetabix much to his pleasure. He had most of it then went on to have a good amount of formula.

We went to Woburn Safari Park today with some friends after breakfast, trouble was halfway around the lion enclosure Morgan decided it was lunchtime. I ended up sat in the back of the car wedged between 2 car seats using my finger to scoop lamb and sweet potato puree into his mouth as I had forgotten a spoon. DD thought this was great fun as she ended up with the front passenger seat all  to herself lol.

Once we were home again, dinner was being politely requested by baby boy so I gave him chicken, potato, tomato and veggie puree. He was a little tired as he had only cat napped during the day but still had over half the portion then finished up with half an apple and blackcurrant fruit pot. Between that and all the fresh air he's had today, I imagine he will sleep well tonight, as long as the teething can lay off for one night.

I have been giving him finger foods all day, todays new food was rice cakes and he really loved it. While we had a picnic at lunch time together, as he had already eaten most of his he sat gumming on blueberry and raspberry rice cakes, that is until he realised I had a cold chicken dipper in my hand. The moment I had it within reach, he swiped it off my and took several bites before discarding the saliva soaked remnants on my trousers...nice!!!

Saturday 24 March 2012

Day 65

He slept! Little man had over an hour this morning and another hour or so this afternoon, he's so much happier for it too thankfully. We've all been outside most of the day so maybe it's worn him out? I don't know, I'm just grateful he's slept. It's also helped with his appetite as he's really tucked his food away today.

The downside of the lovely weather is his eczema is flaring up. His elbow creases are starting to look red and behind his knees, neck, face and ankles are looking angrier.

I gave him 4 grain porridge made up with formula and a mini pancake this morning for breakfast. He had a few bites of the pancake but was more interested in seeing how far it will stretch before tearing (turns out not very) then rubbing the pieces into the table. The porridge was a little more successful, he wasn't overly interested though, but then it must have been quite bland as I didn't add fruit to it.

Lunch was a puree I had to throw together in a hurry this morning, went down a treat though. It was chicken, tomato, potato and veggies with half a clove of garlic and a little sage. One of the more random ones I've come up with but he didn't care. Afterward he had a little bit of custard, but was so full he only managed about half the bowl before giving up.

I thought I'd try a cup instead of a bottle after lunch and see how he got on, trouble was he was tired again so refused to drink from it. Once the formula was back in the bottle he drank it no problem. Think I'll try it again tomorrow but after breakfast when he's more rested and alert.

For dinner, little man had salmon, sweet potato and spinach. I was reminded of what a fetching shade of green it is when I was asked "what's that?" by a curious yet slightly disturbed looking friend that had stopped by lol. Morgan didn't care though, he ate all but a spoon of the bowl then put away almost a whole pot of apple and blackcurrant puree. I was very impressed.

Friday 23 March 2012

Day 64

We've had a fun day catching up with friends and playing in the sun, it's so lovely when we have a day together as a family. Both babies have eaten well, fingers crossed they sleep well tonight too.

Little man had half a weetabix again today, I mixed in half a teaspoon of apple and raspberry puree but he ate less than yesterday so I wonder if it was a bit too sweet? Next time I'll leave the fruit out and see if he eats more.

We went to a friends house for lunch, 3 toddlers and a baby all sat at a table munching on potato waffles together was a very cute site to see. Morgan had a good gum of the waffle, I also gave him a finger of toast which he enjoyed pulling apart. I took a shop bought pot of lamb and sweet potato with me for his lunch and the little menace stuffed it in, so much for mummy's homemade wholesome cuisine lol. He had the rest of the apple and raspberry puree for afters but he was so tired he only had a few spoonfuls before becoming tearful. He enjoyed his bottle though!

DH fed the menace his dinner of chicken, potato and veggies and it was a real battle. This is the 3rd day in a row that Morgan hasn't slept at all well during the day and by dinner time he's exhausted and hysterical so I need to somehow try and get him sleeping during the day. After eating just a tiny amount of dinner I'd made up custard, again he had a tiny amount but really wasn't that interested.

How I'm going to get my baby boy to sleep longer I really don't know, I imagine him teething still isn't helping but he's not waking up in pain, it seems like he's slept enough but I know he's tired still.

Thursday 22 March 2012

Day 63

Today has been a finger food extravaganza for Morgan. He's had toast, cucumber sticks, chips and cripsy corn snacks! He's got on really well with feeding himself and was really excited about munching the corn snacks in his pushchair at the park. The cucumber was rejected the moment it touched his lips, I've never seen him look so appalled.

He's also tried something new for breakfast, weetabix! I gave him half a weetabix mixed with formula and he munched most of it. I may add some fruit next time and see what he thinks.

Lunch was chicken, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower and potato and I'm amazed he ate it as he refused potato in a puree last time. Mind you, he was happily helping himself to chips off my plate so he can't dislike potato as much as he initially made out the little monkey. Afters were apple and raspberry puree but he was so tired he only had a small amount before having a little nap.

Sirs dinner was his favourite, lamb stew. I need to make up a few more things for him as he only has 4 dishes I'm switching between, it's literally just trying to find a little time to make something up.

Tomorrow I'll be having a think about what else I can give him. Maybe lightly cooked carrot sticks, rice cakes, another chicken meal and puddings. Not much to do then ;-)

Wednesday 21 March 2012

Day 62

It's been an eye opening day for me. I was sat at a playgroup with 2 other mummy friends who both have babies 2-3 weeks older than Morgan, all 3 babies were sat up in a little circle playing with toys when one of my friends handed out some biscotti. I knew Morgan couldn't have any, so I watched as his baby friends were happily eating biscotti and realised I'd missed a trick here. I had a packet of my toddler girls carrot flavour crispy corn snacks in my hand so I gave him one. He munched, crunched and gummed the life out of it, then when he only had the bit left in his fist he burst into tears as he thought it had all gone. I really have underestimated him and I'm so sorry for it. Tomorrow will be a finger food adventure for my little man!

I gave Morgan pear and baby rice for breakfast as I'm still undecided if pear makes his eczema worse. His elbow creases are still clear but the backs of his knees are a little worse.

Lunch was beef casserole and he really liked it. He didn't have much but it was quite a filling dinner and he's still teething so he's off his food a little. I gave him a couple more of the crispy corn snacks with his lunch and they went down a treat. Afterwards he had apple, strawberry and blueberry but again didn't eat much. He was very tired at this point and went down for a nap soon afterwards.

I've had to offer sir salmon again for dinner, I really need to sort out another puree as he's had all the chicken one I'd made. I've got some chicken, cauliflower, broccoli, etc, so will throw something together for tomorrow. He wasn't fussed with dinner but again he hadn't slept for very long so was quite tearful. He had a good go at the apple and banana afterwards though.

Tuesday 20 March 2012

Day 61

Oh what a horrid night. Morgan is teething again and he likes to let us know about it! I do feel sorry for him as he's so miserable as they come through. Lots of infant paracetamol and cuddles I think. I just hope he sleeps better tonight as I'm so tired it's making me impatient and irritable, then I feel guilty. There's just no winning some days is there?!

Anyway, as I had to do breakfast with my eyes almost shut through tiredness and a hungry, tearful baby in my arms, I went for the easy option and gave him banana porridge. He wasn't too impressed but was so hungry he made quite a dent in the serving. I have to admit, I did chase up the porridge with some infant ibuprofen and that was a battle. Trying to pin down a screaming 7 month old whilst trying to adminster medicine using a syringe and not coating him, yourself, the carpet, any nearby toys and the ceiling with it is just impossible single handedly.

By lunch time little man had only had about 20 minutes sleep and was crankier than ever through tiredness and hunger. I gave him lamb stew followed by apple, strawberry and blueberry puree knowing he loves it, and once his belly was full he was a little happier.

Sirs afternoon nap is usually about 2 and a half hours long, but today he only managed about 40 minutes as it was quite noisy outside. He's been clingy and tearful all afternoon because of it. Poor little man.

However, I managed to get out of a dinner time battle by handing the spoon to his daddy when he got back from work and disappearing to return a library book. It was a tactic I have to remember for another time lol. Morgan had about a third of the salmon, sweet potato and spinach then ate most of a banana and apple fruit pot. He spent the rest of the afternoon battling to stay awake so once he'd had a bath he completely lost the plot and fell asleep straight after a bottle.

He's not had the greatest of days, I really hope he's able to catch up with some sleep tonight and feel happier tomorrow.

Monday 19 March 2012

Day 60

He slept through!!! I'm amazed!!! And he didn't even wake up screaming for some breakfast, he was quite happy playing with his feet and giggling. Best alarm clock I've ever heard :-D

I thought I'd reintroduce pear today, so gave him pear and baby rice for breakfast and Morgan was delighted. He ate the bowlful and had a little bit of formula afterwards, then he went back to playing with his feet and giggling at his hands. Such a happy little man.

Lunch was salmon, sweet potato and spinach. I fully expected to have to throw it away and find something else but he tucked in happily, I didn't even need to do the spoon of main, spoon of pud trick. Afterwards I gave him custard, he looked a bit stunned after the first mouthful but then he sat and ate quite a bit. It probably helps that I've dug out DD's old highchair toys and he was playing with them during lunch. While I think it's a good thing to try and focus your child on just the food during meals, their concentration span is very limited so I believe in using whatever necessary to encourage little ones to eat! So far during our weaning journey Morgan has eaten while playing with a spoon, my necklace, my hair, highchair toys, a packet of wet wipes and with a carrier bag containing books (I did feel guilty about the carrier bag but it couldn't reach his face as it was weighed down and I was always with him!!)

For his dinner, little man had chicken and veggies followed by apple and strawberry fruit pot. The chicken went down ok, the fruit pot was far more successful though. I fear he has his mothers sweet tooth.

Sunday 18 March 2012

Day 59 (Mothers day!)

What a luxury it was to wake up to find both my babies had already been fed by their daddy and they had brought breakfast in bed up for me. Lush!!

I'm reliably informed that Morgan ate half a rusk mixed with formula for breakfast and his sister had 5 mini pancakes with lemon and sugar. I have no idea what carnage was caused or how many objections were raised by any party and in all fairness, today I don't need to know lol.

We got back home a little late for lunch so I heated up some lamb stew again for sir. His daddy had another go at feeding him but quickly gave up as he was kicking up such a fuss. Enter the mummy! After he calmed down he had the entire bowl again, although as he was sitting on my lap for most of his meal I have to admit we were both wearing a fair bit of it. I'd made up some custard with oat milk for his pud and mixed in some apple and strawberry puree. He was unimpressed and pulled some excellent faces every time I got a spoonful in his mouth. I will try him again but without the fruit as I have a feeling it may have been a bit sweet for him.

Dinner was the dreaded lentils and it's safe to say he no longer likes them. After a few spoons he refused to eat anything at all, but once he realised he was being offered banana and apple instead he was unstoppable and had almost an entire fruit pot. I'll be throwing the rest of the lentil puree away then...

Day 58

Morgan's eczema seems the same today, his elbow creases are still clear but the backs of his legs, neck, face, wrists and ankles are still quite red looking. I'm not overly convinced pear is the problem for him at the moment but another day of not having it should be telling. I'm toying with investing in some cream I've been recommended, I just need to pluck up some courage to invest in it I think. If he continues to make no improvment and reintroducing pear makes no difference I will just order some, if it doesn't agree with him then I'll have a new moisturiser to use lol.

His 3rd tooth came through today! Little man now has a nasty little nip! He's also very good at surprise bite attacks, you only need to be distracted for a moment and he's suddenly attached to your finger. Little menace also has the cheek to cry when you shout out and pull your finger away, what is a mummy to do?!?

Anyway, brekkie was 4 grain porridge with apple and banana  puree. He was quite enthusiastic although I don't think he's a breakfast person as he rarely eats more than 2 tablespoons. That said if he has pear and baby rice he would eat his own body weight, hmmm, I think he needs more variety...

Lamb stew was for lunch and he had the bowlful in record time. I had to do the spoon of stew, spoon of pud trick again, as he seems to get bored of the same taste over and over again but at least he ate it. Pud was the remainder of the banana and apple fruit pot I opened for brekkie.

After yesterdays refusal, I gave sir some chicken, sweet potato, squash and cauliflower for dinner and surprise, surprise, he ate loads. I'm going to try lentils again tomorrow and see what he thinks.

Day 57

Breakfast today was a rusk mixed with milk. I forgot to give him half a rusk to hold but he wasn't fussed as he ate all of it anyway. He was full of smiles and gigglies over brekkie, I love it when he's in such a good mood first thing, always feels like a good omen for the day.

Lunch was chicken and veggies, nana arrived in time to feed him. It was very sweet watching them giggle and pull faces at each other, I think I was the only one that saw the funny side when he tried to over turn the bowl into her lap though lol. Afterwards, Morgan had an apple and strawberry fruit pot. Nana handed the spoon to me at that point! He really liked it and ate half the pot. I will be keeping a close eye on him though as strawberry allergies are that uncommon althouh there are none in our family.

I  have discovered what a meat-a-saurus my son is today!!! He was disgusted at being offered butterbeans and veggies for dinner and barely ate any, he was much more enthusiastic over his pudding of banana puree though. I will keep trying with meat alternatives as I think it does him good to have lentils, etc, in his diet.

His eczema on his elbow creases seem much better, really can't be sure if its the pear or not so will keep witholding it for now.

Thursday 15 March 2012

Day 56

My little man is a little menace! I made him 4 grain porridge with apple and raspberry this morning. He didn't seem that interested but was slowly eating it. That is, until he managed to grab hold of the bowl and tip it out of my hand onto the floor! I'd forgotten how far an upturned bowl of baby food can go, especially once it hits the wall...

At lunch time I managed to keep the little menace away from the bowl of chicken, sweet potato, squash and cauliflower and he ate quite a bit. I did have a flash back to feeding DD at his age as I had to use the 'spoon of chicken, spoon of pud, spoon of chicken...' technique as he was starting to get a little fussy. Pudding was apple and raspberry puree left over from this morning, I used a shop bought fruit pot as raspberries can be messy to deal with and I've spent so much time in the kitchen recently I think I deserve a little time off.

By dinner time DH was home so Morgan was fed lamb stew by his daddy. He had to resort to switching between pud and main again but we got there in the end. I blitzed a banana with apple juice for his pud, it seemed to make a smoother, but runnier, puree and he ate it happily.

His eczema has improved on his elbow creases, face and neck, but behind his knees looks sore and I've found a patch between his toes of all places. If the improvement continues tomorrow then it may well be the pear that's aggravating it. Part of me hopes not but it does seem to be an easy fix if so.

Wednesday 14 March 2012

Day 55

Little man's eczema has flared again, a friend has told me that pear can make it worse so I'll take it out of his diet for a few days and see if it improves. If it is pear I'll be upset as its his favourite, I'm going to have to find some other fruits he can tolerate as at the moment he only has apple and banana.

He's rapidly going off banana porridge, he struggles with the texture as he often gags while eating it. I've tried to make it thinner but he's just the same. This morning he didn't have much at all but seemed happy after so had enough to satisfy him.

I tried him on lamb stew for lunch. Boy did he enjoy it, he ate almost all of it and once he swallowed each mouthful his mouth was open again straight away and he was trying to launch himself out of his seat onto the spoon. Quite entertaining though just a little dangerous!!

After having lamb for lunch, Morgan was less than impressed at the lentils and veggies that was his dinner. He seemed to play with each mouthful before swallowing it and didn't really eat much.

I need to work on puddings now I think, I'll probably start on custard or rice pudding once I've sorted out the fruit issue.

Tuesday 13 March 2012

Day 54

Another good day with sir's food. I changed my mind about giving him lamb as his new food today and went with peach while I had the courage. Stone fruits can often aggravate reflux so while I wasn't too optimistic, I thought it was worth a try. So I made up 4 grain porridge and put 2 tablespoons of cooked peach in it, the first spoon resulted in him giving me his shocked and appalled face which I think was because the fruit was so sweet. After that he seemed to enjoy it, he ate 3 quarters of the bowl anyway.

5 minutes after his last mouthful, Morgan was sick all over my trousers. And it was just peach I was wearing. Think stone fruits really are a no no for now lol.

Lunch time was quite an event too. I took my babies to the library this morning for nursery rhymes and stories being read out but managed to forget my key so was locked out. Ended up having to feed DD a happy meal while sat in the car as she was starting to cry she was so hungry and I had nothing with me. Then had to do a 20 mile round trip to collect our spare key, fortunatley little man slept through most of it and only woke up for some food as we got home. However, both my babies started screaming blue murder as I parked up. DD because she was tired and covered in fruit smoothie (well I did warn her not to squeeze the carton too hard) and sir because he had just realised he was very hungry and he seems to feel a need to cry along with his sister. I ended up feeding Morgan the same as yesterday, chicken, squash and sweet potato followed by apple and pear puree, while madam continued her tantrum in the hallway. I had a slight headache after all that!

Dinner was far less dramatic thankfully. I gave him butterbeans, carrot, sweet potato, cauliflower and apple puree. He tucked in quite happily and had about 2 thirds of the serving. He did treat me to a final hissy fit afterwards but was so tired he could only keep that up for a few minutes.

Tomorrow, I will be glueing the house key to my hand before we leave...

Monday 12 March 2012

Day 53

Having spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen, I'm really hoping that little man likes the new offering I've made him for tomorrow! I've made him a lamb stew, it was one of DD's favourites until she discovered curry, she hasn't looked back since. I've made a batch of other things like pasta sauce, bread and curry ready for freezing, it hasn't taken me hours to make the stew!

Morgan had rusk, apple and pear for his breakfast. I broke the rusk in half and handed it to him to see what he did and he actually started to eat it rather than gum it. It's made me see how baby led weaning works though I still don't believe it would have been the right choice for him. After attacking the piece in his hand with gusto he had the the bowlful too. He had a little bit of formula afterwards but not much.

Lunch was so much better than yesterday. I fed little man myself and he ended up eating almost all the chicken, squash and sweet potato, refused his bottle but then had more apple and pear puree for pudding. I was amazed at how much he put away. After lunch he fell into a deep sleep and we didn't hear from him for 2 and a half hours.

For his dinner I made up carrot, cauliflower and courgette. Morgan wasn't really interested at first, then he got hold of a chip! After that he was quite happy helping himself to chips off my plate between mouthfuls of puree. He does make me laugh!!

Sunday 11 March 2012

Day 52

Lovely, lovely day today. All 4 of us spent the day either playing in the garden or at the park, lots of laughter, fun and we have 2 very tired children this evening!

Morgan has been a little menace over food today however. Started off well by eating all his pear and 4 grain porridge for me. Lunch time was a challenge as little man refused point blank to eat his chicken and veggies that his daddy was offering and I only managed to get his bottle in him by dream feeding him during his nap. With hindsight, I'm not sure if he didn't want the chicken as it's a new texture and flavour or if he just wanted me to feed him and was so worked up that he didn't want his bottle. I'm inclined to think he wanted me as he's very clingy at the moment. After all the lunch time fuss, dinner actually went quite well. I gave him carrot, cauliflower and swede and he ate 2 thirds of the bowl.

I have a feeling he's trying to drop a bottle but doesn't know which one to get rid of! He's fussing over all his daytime bottles now but will take his evening dream feed and night feed with no problems. Time will tell but in the mean time it's proving hard to feed him while he's desperately trying to scramble off my lap or head butt the bottle.

Day 51

Busy, long and tiring day. DD's terrible 2's are really here, I've spent most of the day saying "stop that" , "put it back" and "leave your brother alone" between dealing with tears and tantrums from both my tired babies. These colds have really taken their toll on them both.

Morgan didn't wake for a feed during the night, which is great on one hand but really messed up breakfast on the other. He woke up hungry just before 6am and had a bottle, so by the time his normal breakfast time of 8.30 rolled round he wasn't paticularly hungry. To try and get him back in his routine I made up some banana porridge and a bottle, in all fairness he did eat a little brekkie but not a huge amount but didn't have any of the bottle which was no surprise.

Trouble was, by lunch time he was really hungry. As I was heating his lentils, squash, sweet potato and spinach he completely lost his temper. I always find that hard to deal with because I can't hold him and prepare his lunch as he tends to thrash about or pull away from me so I need 2 hands and leaving him screaming and crying in his bouncer breaks my heart and just makes him worse. In the end he was so upset I had to give him most of his bottle just to calm him before trying the puree. Funnily enough it took the edge off his appetite so he had less than he normally would, really wasn't going to win that one today.

By dinner time (carrot and broccoli today) I think little man had realised that if he screams loud enough I give in to letting him have the bottle first. I'm going to have to be quicker off the mark sorting his meals to stop this one in its tracks, he's been doing so well with solids I'm not letting it all slide now!

I think I'll poach some chicken and mix with barley and veggies tomorrow for him. I've also got an aubergine in the fridge I need to do something with. I've never cooked with aubergine before so a bit of internet research will be required before I attempt it lol.

Day 50

Much better nights sleep for us all last night, Morgan seems to be recovering from his cold now but he's still tired and snotty. DD is much more herself though tired and a little tearful, I keep telling her an afternoon nap will help but she's got my stubborn streak I'm afraid.

Little man's nappy rash is still there but healing well, the cream seems to really be working, I'm having to change him 10-12 times a day though to make sure he's clean as otherwise the rash flares up again. The plus side of all the nappy changes is I tend to cream his patches of eczema when I change him and it seems to be calming down.

I've just realised that Morgan hadn't been sick for days until today. It was only a very small amount after his dinner, but I will be keeping a close eye again. I'm wondering if its because he's sitting up more now, he's able to sit up unaided for quite a while now before over balancing but does tend to lean forward quite a way to play with toys so it must press down on his tummy.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner was baby rice and pear, lentils and veggies and carrot, courgette and swede. He hasn't eaten huge amounts (apart from the pear and rice which he ate all of) but was interested in food and did have a good try of it all. He's slept so much today that I never had a chance to offer any water between meals, by the time his tummy had settled he had sparked and woke up in time for the next meal.

Hopefully he'll be feeling better again tomorrow and I can have a think about what new food to try him on next.

Day 49

Another long and tiring day for us all. Morgan is still a poorly boy, his sister is still recovering and gets really tired and cranky very quickly. Really cannot wait for us to have some non poorly time, feels well overdue.

Morgan had rusk mixed with formula this morning, he still has little appetite so only had about half. I'll try mixing rusk with some fruit soon and see how he likes it. Todays lunch was very well received! I've taken a calculated risk and tried 2 new foods together, there's no history of allergy in our families to either so thought it was worth a try. I made up lentils, sweet potato, squash and spinach, which he really enjoyed much to my surprise. The spinach made the puree a gruesome greeny colour but he didn't care! I'll try this one for the full 3 days then move onto meats. Exciting!!

Dinner was swede and broccoli, more green food but nevermind. Daddy fed little man so he ate quite a bit of it. I think I need to introduce puddings asap, I'm just reluctant to while he's moving onto a new food group and has this cold. There's plenty of time to do it so maybe I'm just putting unnecessary pressure on myself and him.

Day 48

I'm so tired I could cry and little man is so tired he has cried. All night. At mummy. Poor baby couldn't sleep as his nose was blocked and he was going hot and cold. Good news is his sister is feeling much more herself and spent breakfast time poking bits of crumpet up her nose when I wasn't looking. Kids!!!

I'm surprised Morgan ate anything today considering how poorly he feels. He had a little bit of banana porridge for brekkie followed by his bottle. I'm really feeling the need to branch out with breakfasts, just finding it a little difficult to find cereals for babies under 10 months that don't contain milk or fruit that isn't either a stone fruit, citrus or berry besides banana, pear and apple. I must and will work on it. Or just give in and try a stone fruit, I can always withdraw it again if he's sick.

I thought I'd keep it simple today and made up courgette, broccoli and swede for lunch. Nana was with us today so fed Morgan lunch and dinner. I'm really pleased how well he's taking food from other people now, such a relief to know that it doesn't always have to be me spoon feeding him. Dinner was pear and baby rice, still a firm favourite and he cleared the bowl much to his nana's delight.

Morgan's eczema is getting worse behind his knee, once his cold has cleared and the nappy rash has gone again I will try the other formula again and hope it agrees with him. Feels like we're very far from trying it again though as his nappy rash is healing where it was originally but has flared up elsewhere.

Day 47

Oh the snot, tears and tantrums of the day, both my babies and me are feeling rough from this cold and it is really taking it out of us. I can't wait for this to pass.

Little man, however, seems to have got his appetite back today. He ate most of his breakfast of pear and 4 grain porridge and was in a lovely mood this morning. He was giggling, playing with his feet and cooing away to start with. By lunch time he was a little ratty so we dosed him up with infant pain relief and gave him butterbeans and veggies mixed with the last of yesterdays carrot, broccoli and sweet potato pouch. Morgan seemed very pleased to have daddy feed him lunch, so pleased in fact he waited for the spoon to be in his mouth before sneezing and covering everyone and everything within a 6ft radius with his baby mush. I was just out of firing range and found the whole thing highly entertaining lol.

Morgan was delighted to have daddy spoon feed him once again at dinner time, lots of giggles and spoon grabbing going on and suddenly it all went very quiet. When I looked up, I realised little man was mesmerised by the sight his daddy opening his own mouth and chewing along with him. Funny thing was, daddy was oblivious to what he was doing until he realised I was mimicking him between giggles. After that he tried so hard to keep his face still but he just couldn't manage it so went back to chewing imaginary mouthfuls of swede, carrot and broccoli puree lol.

Day 46

It's been quite a day, my little man has tumbled out of his bouncer trying to sit up (lesson learnt about strapping him in even if its just for a minute!), been slapped across the head (me again reaching for a muslin and not realising how tall he is sitting up and yes I feel so guilty it's ridiculous) and I ran out of vegetables for his dinner so reached for a trusty pouch of puree. Awful, terrible, horrible mummy I am!!!!!

I've tried hard to tempt Morgan into eating more today so started with his favourite, pear and baby rice. He seemed to find his appetite after that lol. Lunch was butterbeans and veggies again and he had a fair bit of it before becoming vocal for his bottle. I've decided to try him on it for the full 3 days on butterbeans before moving onto something like lentils and then meats and fish.

Dinner was sweet potato, carrot and broccoli from a pouch, I'd forgotten how blissfully easy it is to have pre-prepared meals for a baby's dinner so may be falling off the wagon again soon lol. Morgan had no idea I hadn't made it myself so no harm done!!

Sunday 4 March 2012

Day 45

Not the greatest of days and nights for us all. I was up 4 or 5 times during the night to both of them, their daddy took over the 2nd half of the night and had Morgan disturbing him every hour or so. Very tired and I have their cold just to top it off.

Because of his cold, little man has very little appetite again. He had a little bit of porridge for brekkie but not much. I've been offering him cooled boiled water in a lidded cup between meals to try and keep his fluids up. I was amazed how quickly he twigged how to use it unaided and he makes chuckle when he takes a sip as he looks appalled at the taste yet still goes back for more.

I made up some butterbeans with veggies for lunch, when pureed it came up quite thick so I added some of his water to thin it out. He seemed to enjoy it although he didn't have much again.

Like yesterday, Morgan really liked dinner for some reason. Seems like not eating much during the day catches up with him and he is really hungry by 4pm. He had carrot, broccoli and cauliflower and ate most of it. I'm starting to consider introducing supper before bed, may help him sleep??

Saturday 3 March 2012

Day 44

Horrible horrible night with my angelic little monsters. Between them I was up 5 times so only had about 3 hours sleep. They both seem to be coming down with colds so the next few days should be bags of fun...

Morgan hasn't got much appetite today, wasn't really bothered about banana porridge for his breakfast or the sweet potato, carrot, broccoli and cauliflower puree that was his lunch. By dinner time he seemed to pick up a little and ate all the carrot, courgette and baby rice I'd prepared, although it was a smaller portion than normal. I was contemplating introducing puddings now but think I'll judge that one once he's feeling better.

On the plus side, his bottom is so much better. All the rash and redness has almost gone, the broken skin is no longer bleeding and starting to heal. I keep leaving him to roll around with no nappy on, he thinks its brilliant, especially when he manages to pee over the side of the waterproof sheet onto the carpet!!

Friday 2 March 2012

Day 43

Little man tucked into his breakfast this morning with lots of enthusiasm, I gave him a rusk mixed with formula and he had all but a spoonful of it. Much better reaction to milk based foods now hes back on pepti, if he takes to the nutramigen after a second try I'll have to use a milk substitute like oat milk.

Todays new food is courgette! Morgan had courgette, carrot and sweet potato for lunch and loved it. Only had about half the serving but we were at a friends house with 3 toddlers around him so there was plenty to distract him, he did really well though.

Dinner time seems to be getting earlier and earlier, its gone from 5pm back to 3.45pm, so I was mean mummy and refused to feed him till 4pm. Lots of distractions from cuddles, toys and his dummy and we made it to 4pm. I really don't want to be giving him dinner before 4 as it will have a knock on effect to the whole bath and bedtime routine.

A little update on little mans little bottom! The skin seemed less red this morning but the broken skin was bleeding, by this evening it had stopped bleeding but still looks really sore. The nutramigen appears to be out of his system already so hopefully his skin will start to recover properly now.

Day 42

Well I can honestly say I've never cried over changing a nappy until today. Morgans slight nappy rash has become horrendous, blistered and broken skin, changing his nappy has him in hysterics and I cried with him. My poor little boy. He has been prescribed cream so hopefully he will be more comfortable tomorrow. Having spoken to the dietician and doctor, we've agreed to switch him back to pepti and try nutramigen again when his bottom is all clear. It may be that as his poo has become less solid since changing formula that the nutramigen is the reason it's happened. There is also a chance its a complete coincidence so we'll try again another time.

Again Morgan didn't really want his banana porridge, I certain its the taste of nutramigen in his food as when I took it away and offered apple and banana puree he tucked in happily.

I gave little man cauliflower, broccoli and carrot for lunch and he really liked it. Lots of gummy smiles and giggles while eating. He also seems to understand that when he sees the spoon coming he needs to open his mouth, I don't have to touch his lips with the spoon anymore. Little things and all that lol.

By 4pm Morgan was being a little vocal over how hungry he feels so I offered him pear, squash and baby rice. 1 clean bowl and a happy boy later, calm was restored to our home. Minutes later I found my toddler girl and got hold of a spoon from somewhere and was feeding little man from his bowl which I had foolishly left within reach, he was delighted to be getting the tiny little dregs from round the edge of the bowl and his big sister had a triumphant look on her little face. I couldn't help but laugh bless them.
